Default So how fast is this thing anyway???

We all know our boosted little MX5s are quick with those snails bolted on, or atleast we think they are, because they certainly "Feel" fast. Well it turns out mine isn't that fast.

Yesterday my oldest (He's 27) rode with me to town to pick up my wife's Mercedes C300 at the dealership. 2011, AMG package on it, 7 speed auto, but nothing fancy. 3500# 4 door sedan making about 240HP. We lined up at an intersection, me in the C300, Jeff in the Miata. He got a good start, and said he took it to the limiter in 1st and 2nd. He said I steadily pulled on him from off the line thru about 70MPH. We were both pretty surprised as we had talked about how quick this thing feels now...

So... I'm gonna have to start rethinking buying those injectors...

You're doing it wrong, a week ago I had a C300 riding my *** on an exit ramp, we both punch it and it was no contest, and I'm not even making 200whp.

Also I'm not sure you meant to put this in MEGAsquirt section...

you thought a stock injector miata is fast? LOL

it doesn't even wake up til 200whp. gets nice at 250..surprisingly quick at 300.....and so on

Compared to stock? Sure. And two more things... My former daily driver/DE car was a 670HP Porsche Turbo, so I think I understand the difference in "fast" and slow. And the other... We actually were "doing it right". We had dialogue before hand and both people knew we were both running from zero. So many times I hear guys say "I raced some dude on the highway..." and there's never any evidence that the other guy "got the memo" or was "racing" too.

This car feels quick. Clearly it's not as fast as it "feels". It was an observation I thought worth sharing.

Mike, you're happy to drive mine next time you're around. I'm pushing around ~230tq/~230hp. I make vette owners sad, and I still think know it's slow. I'm pushing morethan double the boost as you on a very simlarly sized turbo.

I'd estimate that you're currently in the 140-160whp range.

At around 220rwhp with m last turbo, I reember pulling on some guy in a STi, he was hella impressed when we got to a light and gave me props. Then we raced frm a dig and I never saw him again...only a distant blur of his taillights fading in the darkness.

I put my wimpy 200hp car up to an M5 on the highway, 50 roll and had him by half a car. You're doing something wrong brother.

I can attest that a 250-260rwhp Miata is pretty quick. Not a top-end car, but pretty quick down low/midrange. I pissed off a guy in a R8 V8 one evening, that was great- dude wouldn't even look over at me because from 30-80 we were dead even. A few moments later, a 996 911 turbo destroyed both of us lol (later found out it was a 600+whp car lol). A friends E60 M5 barely pulled on me from 80-140...but Miatas aren't top-end cars, so I wasn't surprised...though he was surprised by how little he did pull.

I'd guess with stock injectors, you might be making ~160rwhp? I could see the C300 pulling ahead just on the fact that it has that much more torque.

Erat- I'm guessing that was an E39 M5?

The best is taking down a guy in a big diesel truck. With 250whp, it's pretty ridiculous. I took down a 2011 rs4 before I sold mine. Good times were had by all.

The Merc is 110% as delivered from the factory, stock 2011 model... We like it alot. It's not my GT3, but it is quick. I just assumed the light weight of the MX5, plus the additional power of the turbo kit/hardware would keep it glued to my bumper...

BTW, My 2006 Dodge Megacab Cummins is pushing 38 pounds boost using a piggyback system from Edge Performance. Pretty slick unit has a built in turbo timer and 5 preset tunes. Pretty darned quick off the line!

After the holidays I'll look at grabbing a set of ID725cc injectors and then we'll start tweeking again... Money's going to get a little tight while I finish the Datsun V8 refresh, and drop the drivetrain on the GT3 to pin some water pipes and swap out the clutch.

It never ends...
