Hypothetically, if you had $10,000 cash, and wanted a miata to have a little fun in (keep in mind you <3 forced induction but dont have ANYWHERE NEAR enough experience to make a custom kit, or even install a premade kit), what would you do?

-find a super good deal that already has suspension, and pick up a greddy turbo kit for it and pay to get it installed
-find a previously turbo'd miata
-other suggestions?
-gtfo!!!!

where i live, it costs $18 to register a car, plus $20 for a new tag. don't know where you live because you didn't fill out your profile.

Don't know if you saw the 50k mile blue 90 on FM's website? He's asking $8k, and it's been for sale for a long time. Good looking car, but probably not going anywhere in January.... (good time to make him the offer he can't refuse)

You only pay taxes here if you buy it from a dealership or used car lot, in other words, a business. If you buy from a private owner, you don't have to pay tax, unless they want to charge it. Other than that, pay the aforementioned tag and title fee, and that's it.

No taxes on private party transactions.

If a purchase is made at a dealership, sales tax is charged by the county where the vehicle is registered, at that county's rate, despite where the car was purchased. Meaning, you purchase the car at a dealer in Atlanta or California, you pay your county tag office the sales tax. Tax in my county is 6%, but Fulton Co/Atlanta City is up to 9%

We also have to pay a registration fee ($18) and ad velorem tax every year (% of vehicle's value).

And of course, we also have emissions! Let's hear it for the Georgia Clean Air Force . Emissions testing began as a government run agency. It was a yearly test due the month of registration renewal at a cost of $15. Then, in a splended display of unchecked corruption, the testing agency was privatized. The testing fee was marked up to $25, but the testing interval was reduced from anually to every other year. For the first year. Now it's back up to every year, and still at $25. Plus the GCAF forces the private emissions testing stations to purchase new equipment almost yearly.

It's all bullshit. Down with the system.

taxes apply to private transactions here in FL. My last car was an Audi A4 that I paid $10k for; spent another $714 to get it on the road. I'd need to budget about 600 for that, so the best i'd be able to offer is $9,400. But then that leaves absolutely nothing in my bank account if something breaks (i'm a full time student so i don't work much anymore)

Anyway, thanks alot for the quick responses, this community is great! I'm hardcore into German Cars and swore for the longest time I wouldnt own anything else, but thats just stupid. As much as i love the German Engineering (which is alot - I even run a website, like this, for german cars), I can't pass up the fun that can be had in a turbo miata.

and jesus i'll put a little more effort into my profile haha

as long as they fix it, i'll be confident in the product. There is no better option. It sucks that the turbo died, but I'd rather that happen than welds break, in terms of begi quality.

I can't say I've ever heard of someone running into a problem with a BEGi product that wasn't quickly made right. They take customer service VERY seriously over there.

You have no aspirations to learn to turbo?
The miata is a very easy and fun car to work on and in my opinion you should build your own car. I have zero respect for people who buy modded cars and have no idea whats done to them.


Building and learning along the way it is half if not 3/4 of the fun!!!

emissions in GA is a racket IMO
And the ad valorem tax could be considered a raw deal too.
My 02 IS300 was $400/yr for ad valorem, sales tax would be 1440. Each year the ad valorem goes down a bit, but you get the idea. It's like dividing up the pain, but never being able to end it. Ad valorem on my 1990 160k mile Miata is $80/yr. Oh- and here's a good one: IF your car is dead (undrivable), it is still your responsibility to pay the assessed value and then file an appeal (in person) to get a refund. Nice.

I agree with you quite a bit but this isn't simple for everyone. I'm a college student and I also have a job, so I need transportation. It cant sit half taken apart in my driveway all the time. On top of that i'll probably be living on campus next semester so I wont have a place to work on it, or even a place to keep the tools. Right now, a hobby like that isn't practical. I have more $$ than I have time, so for me it'd be better to get something prebuilt.

I would like to get another miata as a track car in the future that I'd like to build up myself. Of course that'll be by the time i have enough $$ for a house, DD, miata, trailer, and a truck to tow it with. So for now, a turbo DD miata thats already been built up sounds like the best bet.

So if anyone here is thinkin about selling one, send me a PM (yeah i' watching the for sale section too)





and like i asked before, is there anywhere i can post an intro?
