Default Anyone had any experience with Earl Scheib?

I want to get my Miata re-painted pretty soon and my buddy recommended Earl Scheib as a good cheap paint shop. Was wondering if anyone had any experience with them....

I take it it's like Maaco/Fact-o-Bake/etc?

My dad and all his autox buds used to take their cars to those sort of places for the actual paintjob, but they did their own prep beforehand. On the other hand, they didn't really expect the car to last, much less the paint, so maybe not the best advice for a car you plan to keep intact awhile.

I knew one local who got a good job from them.

It 100% varies from shop to shop... its just another paint chain who trys to do more volume than quality.

You need to find others having gone to the same shop you are considering... confirm the same painter.... prep your own car 100% and sometimes offer to provide your own paints. Then you can get a decent job.

Otherwise.... its a shot in the dark.

Stay away from them. I had my miata painted for $350 with them in DC. paint began to chip almost immediately. Did not paint the inside parts even though I asked them to do it. Paint seems cheap.

Good bodyshops are pricey. I paid a hair under $5k for all my work a couple years ago. (framework too) But my paint job ***** on any other I've ever seen.
