I actually like the Fiata. The trunk is one whole water bottle bigger and you can get Recaros. But only on the most expensive trim. And only by themselves, no other luxury options.

I am up to 3300 miles on the ND now. The dealer is not being responsive about fixing my damn top.

The ND gets incredible gas mileage. I did 510 miles on one tank and the range gauge still said I had 25 miles left to go. This was from Silverton to Hesperus, CO. Then from Hesperus to Roswell, NM.

Then I decided to replicate my 01's cruising RPM's in the '16. The 01 is at 4k RPM at 80 mph. 4k in the ND is 94 mph. I still was getting 28 mpg.

You and I both know that isn't true, it's called BEWST and Fiata has it.

Anyway, sounds like fun.

I am wondering how expensive it is to buy a set of the Fiat recaros and plop them in an ND. Does anyone know if they have headrest speakers?

Yes, the Recaros have all the features of the regular seats. I have really thought of getting an Abarth (because all the Alcantara and better looks) by trading in my Sport and then finally I can dedicate the 01 to track stuff.

The Abarth is a helluva deal. Putting aside my employee discount, and if I were blind, and if I didn't like top-end power, I'd go for an Abarth all day.

The Abarth, to me, is the perfect DD. I would never care about taking it on track, because the ND exists. Naturally aspirated and lighter weight is obviously better for the track. The easy power mods, quieter interior, and slightly bigger trunk of the Abarth would fix the complaints on my ND. Mine has surprisingly bad wind noise coming from the back edge of the drivers side window.

I also had the trunk in the ND absolutely stuffed with one medium suitcase, one small gym bag, one pair of shoes, my small tire kit, and a few bottles of wine picked up at the vineyard right next to Flyin Miata.

Fiata has pretty bad lag. NADA, zilch, zero until 2500 or so. And then dead up top. Look at the dynos.

Like I said.

And add the BEWST to the larger engine and see what happens.

I wouldn't be horribly surprised if this were, to some extent, a matter of tuning, both for emissions / economy, as well as to provide the uneducated driver with a rewarding kick-in-the-pants sensation when the turbo is permitted to start making boost.

I mean, we all know how much the performance of the MSM can be improved without changing out any major hardware other than the ECU.

I suspect the falling down up top is tuning like Joe mentioned.

I know when I had my MazdaSpeed 3, tuning logs showed the stock tune started closing the throttle plate, even though you were still requesting, ALL OF IT.

I thought that the insane torque curve on the Skyactiv G was due to "high" comp (13:1) and a fairly restrictive head (~150cfm if I remember an Emilio post from forever ago), right?

When I was in Hiroshima, they had an ND with the Recaros in at the museum entrance. I refused to sit in it because I knew I would be endlessly pissed off once I got home. Also, seeing Atenza wagons in motion was semi-heartbreaking.

I'd tend to agree, based only on what I've seen in many other modern cars.
Down low they keep the car in closed loop for as long as physically possible, holding stoich for doze em pee geez. Up top they try to keep the cats happy with uber rich afr.

Usually an intake, downpipe, and tune result in big gains everywhere.

Someone already posted a plot of an ABARF with tune and the plot that resulted. What's interesting is - the MSM isn't even a good example to make this point since it has some serous hardware flaws contributing to the anemic stock powerband.

The drawbacks of the 1.4t are it's small turbo and tiny intercoolers. Many guys here get no more than 170-180 whp with a tune.

Hail storm came through last night. This brand new Fiata needs a hood and trunklid.

Hertz gets it back on Friday. And then its back to my NAs.

Managed to convince someone to get a new Miata. Was pretty incredible to test drive.

...anyone have a plan price that they might be able to use?

Have him/her sign up for a Mazda speed account and he can get a great discount!

I thought it was that you needed to be in two events in the last year? Maybe I'm just out of date.

EDIT: Looked it up, they'd need either currently to be racing, or be building a race car and be part of a racing organization.

There is a thread on miata.net with info on what people are paying. I think a few people have gotten sport models in the 22/23/24k range.

According to Mazda USA's website, the 2016 is now available in FWD and AWD.
