And because it's fun and gets people riled up.

And frankly what else do you compare the ND to? The NC pales in comparison, and the NA/B are great cars but not even close in terms of refinement. All other convertibles on the market are big heavy things compared to these two.

Biggest reason I compare them is because of what Aidan posted above. After taking an ND Miata around a mini autocross course I started texting my regional dealer rep asking him when it will be eligible for E Plan

I'm pretty sure Emilio, Goodwin and FM all got theirs with E-plan pricing (thought I read something to that effect -- I could be wrong). E-plan isn't much of a discount anyway other than it saves haggling time.

Nope. Dealers were declining any discounts. Bill came to Cali to get one of his because there were no manuals in CO at the time. Brian got an LE, no doubt at full pop and the GT, I understand at full pop. My GT was sticker through a local dealer, the day it arrived.

It was bear just finding a manual in any color or model. When I found the manual GT in one of my color choices, I snapped it up sight unseen. Dealer was surprised I didn't want to even test drive it. "Just let me buy it first!"

The folks at Mazdaspeed tried to get me an S-Plan deal but every dealer said "you're kidding right?". I'll be surprised if any vendor or specialty shop got a dollar car or even a discount. Now in 6 months, we could have all gotten the cool guy deal, but none of us could wait that long to begin ah, voiding the warranty.

It's always impressive to see the mad rush between companies when a new model of a popular platform comes out. The '15 wrx was like this, the "race to be 1st on the market with xxx" was very much real. Now the ND. I bet we see this with the Focus RS very soon too.

Indeed you are mistaken on both counts. As Emilio stated, they paid full price and frankly that's quite good considering most dealers are sticking to their varying markups.

Even aside from that, EPlan is extremely good pricing. You're thinking of SPlan which is basically invoice. EPlan is 4% BELOW dealer invoice.

Can a regular consumer take advantage of this EPlan you speak of?

IIRC, to get E Plan pricing you have to be a Mazda employee or have a similar close connection. S Plan is for friends of employees, employees of partner companies, people with Mazdaspeed accounts, stuff like that.

Yup, only employees and immediate family of employees. Sometimes (like now) extended family of employees.

Truth is though, on some models I already sell them for EPlan or below. That's what I get for being an internet *****.

ehh how much market will there be for aftermarket parts of something they only plan on selling like 2k per year of. The guy who sits next to me at work it like constantly pestering the dealer to make sure he gets one already.

This bar will have a harness bar integrated into the structure as well retaining the OEM seat belts (untouched).

This bar is already in the works, we have the Goodwin racing car torn apart here and we've been working on our prototype for a few days now.
Pics coming soon!
Big news of the day -

I can now confirm that both models of the Blackbird Fabworx bars for the ND are going to be SCCA Legal!
Yep, including the street oriented setup which keeps the soft top.
For those who are not in the know, making an SCCA legal bar that will allow the Z fold top to to come down all the way is VERY tricky.
Very happy about that

That explains a lot. Mazdaspeed gives the impression that S-plan is basically employee pricing. And when I looked at the S-plan prices, I was like "this is an employee benefit?!?"

Really cool to see all the development efforts right out of the gate with these.

I'm going to try to get S Plan when I take delivery of my Club, but I'm not holding my breath. The ND isn't going to be on E for a while.

Several people on m.net have claimed to gotten s plan pricing, they have also posted several dealerships that are already discounting below msrp in various parts of the country.

That's believable. Standard trick for us city folk when a new performance or niche car hits the showrooms is to head out into the sticks and find a small dealer with that car. Often, they know they'll never sell it at sticker, let alone a markup so they let it go quick for a bit below sticker.

When the NA first hit back in '90, dealers weer gouging $3-5K over sticker. A friend went out into the desert, got his base package car under sticker the week they hit the dealers.

I tried that myself, searching a 500 mile radius. The result? No manuals. Not one. I found a manual and the dealer up the street, didn't haggle, dealer didn't mark it up and I consider that fortuitous.

For what it's worth, I'm sure I could sell one for below MSRP because internet *****. But we certainly aren't just offering/advertising them that way... and so far all we have is automatics.
