so... after quite a long time (i got them with the original group buy) i am finally ready to install my boundary engineering pump gears.

i dont want to sound like too much of a but i figured this is a question worth asking. Obviously the oil pump is pretty darn critical... does anyone have a reccomendation as to exactly which brand/type of RTV i should use?

I generally use the permatex ultra black for oil pans, and the ultra grey when assembling transmission cases... but i've never actually assembled anything that faces such high pressures as an oil pump housing.

i appreciate any helpful responses!

I don't have the manual in front of me but I'm almost positive that you are not supposed to use ANY sealant at all.

ah ok i searched around before posting this and found one post that seemed to be related. re-reading it now they are talking about between the block and the oil pump... my bad. even still, there is a paper gasket there not RTV so i'm not sure whats up with that.

Whenever there is a gasket I have always just used the gasket alone, making sure all mating surfaces were completely clean and dry.

IIRC there's no gasket available, I've used RTV on both the motors I've done oil pump replacements on. Could be wrong.

my 1.6 oil pump came with a paper gasket and the orginal also had a paper gasket as well, no sealant on it.

there is a paper gasket for the pump to block, but no gasket between the steel pump cover and the pump housing (i'm looking at the pump right now).

having some slight issues with clearances on the new gears, i'm gonna shoot travis a PM...

The gears are hit or miss, just due to shitty factory tolerances. I mic'ed my gears before install and they were within a couple thousandths.

both the stock gears are 0.371" thick, the new inner gear is perfect at 0.371" but the outer is 0.3675". this makes the side clearance on the outer gear 8.5 thou (it's 5 thou with the stock gears). the spec is 5.5 thou max so i'm not sure what to do... i'll see what travis says .

got the gears exchanged no problem, and the install went smoothly. should be up and running again soon, thanks travis!
