Hey guys does anyone know exactly how to remove the a/c ? I no longer need a/c and wnat to get rid of it, just not sure how to remove it. I know i need to get rid of the condenser, the pump but i really dont know how or what else is involved. I tried searching here and over on miata.net and didnt find crap. Thanks

All I could find when removing parts of mine was the installation instructions.

Make sure you have the refridgerant evacuated before removing the equipment though. Some shops will even pay you for whatever they evacuate from the system. Saving the ozone layer.

well when i bought my car the guy told me it has no frion in there so it is already out of the system. So is there a way to do this without removing my power steering belt ? im confused. Most of it seems straight forward except for the pulley part. Isnt the ac right by the powersteering. Im in no rush of doing this and i can do a little everyday until its done but any help is appreciated because this is my first time doing something of this nature on a car.

I had to pay a shop $30 to take out my refrigerant

You need to buy a shorter power steering belt since the a/c pulley will be gone and they share a belt. Most parts stores will have it, just ask for a miata belt with pwr steering and without a/c.

I only removed my compressor and condensor to make room for intercooler and pipes. I left everything in the dash intact, and my heat still works. All I replaced was the belt.

The box under the dash weighs a bit, like 10lbs. You can get a duct for like $15 from Rosenthal that goes in its place. I've posted the P/N several times on M.net.

UPDATE**** ok guys I have EVERYTHING except the pulley and the belt off. I have taken all the bolts off the pulley however I have no clue as to how to take that **** off. I am pretty happy with the success soo far considering the fact that I usually only did oil changes and such simple tasks. Can anyone guide me in the right direction? I have almost everything done.

And BTW, If treehuggers really want to save ozone they should quit eating beef and using dairy products. Cattle are the primary source of ozone depletion...not freakin car AC products. But thats how treehugger politics always work...make a huge deal out of the insignificant while ignoring the **** that matters.

If you look at the .pdf I linked to earlier, you can see which bolts you have to undo to take off the compressor (the pump thing the pulley is attached to). You might have to loosen the belt too, but then it should just come right off.

sam i took all the bolts off and it still wont move...any idea how to loosen the belt? i feel like a retard dude. I did this much and now im stuck

To remove the belt, you have to loosen the bolt that's behind the pulley (rotate the pulley so you can access it) then unscrew the long adjuster bolt on top of the compressor.

I would think you could wiggle the compressor aroud enough to get the belt off if all the bolts are out though. In the pictures, it looks like there's four 85mm long bolts holding the compressor to the mounting bracket, then three more bolts holding the bracket to the engine block.

I took out my AC yesterday, every single last bolt !
I didn't have to take off the rad at all but I did have to open the top two bolts and push it back a small bit.
Man those pipes were rapped all around the engine bay !
Managed to drop the AC rad along with the reservoir thingy still attached to it downwards and out underneath the car.
I took out the PS today and dropped the rack as I'm going to do the FM job on it.
W A Y more room around the engine now and man, the amount of pipes and the weight of all the parts off the car is something else !

Box under the dash doesn't need to be removed necessarily. I just took the condenser/evaporator/whatever it's called out from the box, and put it back in. plastic shell by itself only weighs a couple ounces at most.

I pulled my a/c out just this past weekend and all the piping was an incredible pain in the *** to unscrew. I ended up taking a hack saw right between the firewall and the first set of threads cause i couldn't get that **** apart

Raising this up from the dead. I have just finished removing all of my AC system and then I came across this post below. Is this bolt required on the NB, and what is it for?
