I am not really afraid of the car. I am afraid that the car is not lettting me really learn. I need to spend a good year or two NA to learn to drive. After talking to a fair amount of spec people, they agreed with me. I am going to think about for a little while more and maybe even do another track day with a 2psi spring in the wastgate to see how I like it.

Meh, everyone can learn from a decade in an SM, it seems that 90% of the people out there who run a decent lap time are really good at telling people how much they don't know. I think you can have equivalent fun in a turbo car and have just as much fun.

I'm no pro, but I'm at about 80-hours of seat time in 3-years so I felt the jump to super-car was justified...and it is. Drive the with the SM mentality is a lot of fun, and you have to fight for the last-hundredths. I had a lot more fun driving my car like an AI car and not sweating the tenths and thinking "holy **** its fun to run with these Camaros, Mustangs, and Vettes.

Don't do anything drastic yet. Log a few more hours and build up the mechanical trust, then worry about lap times. I couldn't get under the SM record at Hallett on my first event in this car...at the last event I was 2-seconds under the SM record on a wet track and I had a smile on my face for about 2-weeks.

I am going to do another couple events in it with a little more mechanical faith. This car is an absolute blast and reliable. I just need to have more faith in it.

Keep the turbo on the track. Keep boost down for a few days. The extra power hides your mistakes elsewhere. "Brake too early or too hard? Get on the gas" attitude teaches you bad habits. Driving better will make you smoother. Huge bonus of smooth besides better lap times is...

Mechanical Empathy! Smooth is good. You are much less likely to break stuff. Like Hustler went through and advised, relax, breath deep and have fun. Ease into it like Hustler eases up to a homeless teen runaway working the street.

I agree with everything aside from "masking errors." That logic works for posers who don't understand what's going on. Rharris has enough experience to know when he's not on point. Homeless teens are my favorite.

Had no idea what kind of driving experience he has. With the "ooh I'm gonna break my car" attitude I figured he was a wanna-be trying to be Dump Truck JR.

Knowing he's an experienced driver I change my recomendation - SUCK IT UP! Drive it like you stole it and have some fun.

I personally like my formula for the track car.

Stock 1.6 or 1.8.
Cheap turbo (going to cheap one this winter), GIANT IC and Radiator... preferably V-mounted for serious cooling.
Decent suspension, brake upgrades and DUCTING (I neglected this on my car.. and it wasted some time).
Then safety gear and just go drive.

The less money in the car the better. Then again... I feel thats they way I'd play even if I had the money to spend on a "faster" car.

I've started left-footing more that I'm comfy with the car and it scares me to think about what 20-seconds of full throttle does to the shade of glowing-yellow turbo parts. 110+mph 5th gear on the left foot through a kink > *.slow miata

dude, run 4-5 psi, get used to it. within a few months you'll be ready to run more. make sure you get your tune adjusted before you go to the track and leave it alone. don't even datalog. if it's good, it's good. once your at the track, it's time to CHECK YOUR AIR PSI.! and adjust your suspension settings to your liking and for the course or conditions. (i usually alot the 1st session for setup) then from there it's all about you. braking points, turn-in, track out points. get used to the track, stay smooth and build a rhythm. for your last sessions, try and maximize your speeds. even if it's just a mph or 2. i also always run the course exactly like i would at speed during my cool down lap. sometimes you can't hit a clipping point because your going too fast in a given corner, and it makes you slower for the next. that can make a huge impact on your lap times. when driving slow on the cool down lap, you can hit that point and visualize it. later you'll get it at speed. there's absolutlely no reason you can't learn to drive better with what you got. stick with it, and i'll help you with setup or lines or anything if i'm at the same event. or at miata challenge 1 @ msr-h!!!!

btw, i'm coming over tomorrow to pick up those flares if that's cool. i forgot i had a "legal" appt. today! lol

Fine! I will keep it as is. What you guys are saying makes sense. Now I have to go buy a 3rd damn spring for this wastegate to run 5psi. My only logic was that this setup will be going to waste one running little to no boost. Long term it does make sense to keep it, but with all that extra money I could finished my LS1 tomorrow.......

My view was a little too short sighted and trying to figure out my friends engine problems made me just want to swap in an NA motor. I was tired, weak, and vulnerable........forgive me

I have experience driving, but just don't want to develop bad habits with this car. Self control and a softer wastegate spring will be my friends. Dually noted recommendation

meh i already could drive my miata at 13/10 before with the turbo i just have to make sure im not leaving 1/10's behind me as the *** end swings around. Experience matters but ultimatley if you can drive you can ****** drive, feeling the car and what it is doing is in no way diminished by having 3times stock hp, atleast not in my book.
