The older I get the less I feel like dealing with law enforcement so I'm looking to replace my breather set up with a proper catch can to satisfy MA emissions standards.

I've searching and searching I haven't found a catch can which satisfies my budget, scale, input/output, etc.

I've considered making own, however, we don't have any extrusions big enough at work and I'm not buying a 6' section at consumer prices.

Has anyone found a good off the shelf aluminum canister which can be drill and tapped for AN fittings?

I found a couple decent tea and 'herb' storage canisters which would be perfect, however, the wall thickness is a bit on the thin side though bulkhead fittings may work.

Any creative ideas or sources welcome, <$100 preferable

Use an old Miata power steering reservoir IF steel is ok. Or an old AC drier for aluminum.

I forgot to mention; I ******* hate the viewing tubes. I consider them just another potential failure point.

There's a dozen products I would have purchased by now had they not added that feature.

Thats an easy fix. Just unplug the sights and use male threaded plugs to seal off the ports.

It will be extremely hard to find a catch can without a sight tube. Everyone Ive ever seen has had a sight tube.

Now, this might be of interest to you. Some of the low budget srt4 guys like to make their own catch cans out of supplies from hardware stores. These end up costing like $30 but dont have much of a reservoir for fluid.

They do NOT have the sight tubes that you hate so much.

Use the evap canister from any NB. I did. Been on for a couple of weeks and I need to check it's contents and the inset of the inlet tube to see if it's effective or not. If it's not, I'll cut it in half, stuff it with a sctochbrite pad and use a small coupler to seal it back up/together. I'll also probably end up tapping the bottom of it for a drain valve.

Venom energy drinks come with pretty thick aluminum bottles. They are my new preferred overflow/catch can material starting points.

my friend used a coolant overflow for a hotrod. you can find them in jegs or summit racing. or related websites. his was a thin polished aluminum tube, worked great on his ae86. cheap too!

Another question for you guys.

Are you getting a lot of condensation build up in the catch cans or is it only oil?

I'm contemplating whether I should vent from the nipple of the passenger side of the 1.6 block along with those on the cam cover. This would also let any collected oil to run back into the pan. It also means ANY fluid collected is running back into the pan so my concern is that I'd just be introducing water into my oil.

Do not route back into pan. It gets gas fumes/oil/water mixing. You don't want that diluting the engine oil. Yes... it means you'll have to keep an eye on the catch can and empty it... but its worth the effort.

I make these all the time from left over plenum tubing when I build intakes, you can see mine in this ugly pic, its a 3", I have 4" as well, I can cap them and tap the holes. If enough people are interested Ill get a price together.

This is one of the nicest I have seen. If you can stretch the budget slightly I think you would be pleased.

How much blow-by are people getting in practice? I used an air compressor filter for several oil changes and barely caught anything. If I have to empty this one once every oil change, I'll be happy.
