Default My Wire tuck & engine bay respray Journal *pics*

So after going through my second built motor, the car's been sitting for almost 4months now with no motor in it. Now that my collection of all the new parts for the new motor is coming close to an end i've finally decided to start working on my wire tuck and engine bay respray.

I felt like the bay needed to be freshened up so a new coat of paint and a wire tuck was needed.

So far I only got to working on the passenger side of the bay. Will keep this thread updated as it all comes along

Where are you fastening the wires and relocated hardware? I'm interested in your project. Looking forward to updates.

Looks good so far.

Maybe some more pics of how you routed the wiring.

UPDATE!

i decided to go ALL OUT and do a full hardcore tuck ;D

No wires will be exposed in the engine bay. Fuse box will be relocated inside under the dash.
Pics show the way i choose to route my wires. not done with the passenger side just yet. so far the driver side is all done, I removed ALL wires for the A/C from the harness and removed the entire airbag system wiring from the harness also and some un-needed sensors.
enjoy the pics!

This pic vvv shows the driver side all finished, just need to route the wires to the front of the car for the headlight and turn signals.

this shot is from the interior next to the clutch pedal, the hole I made there is where the wires for the front lights will go through.

exterior shot of the driver side:

pic of the bay before i started pulled the wiring harness inside the cockpit, brake booster was also removed for the paintjob along with the clutch master.

had the sand down the engine bay paint down to the metal in some spots because of deep nicks and scratches:

Don't make it too pretty. That will make it all that harder to live with that first big scratch after you drop a ratchet or something. Looks good, look forward to more wire tucking pictures.

Awesome job. Looking forward for pics when complete.

Also I would like to try a full out wire tuck some day, but I was just was thinking how big of a bitch would it be to lets say diagnose a wire fault.. I usually like everything easily accessible haha.

How many hours have been put into the wire tuck alone? Try and keep track for us.

As easy as pulling the fenders. After getting that intimate with the wiring, you know exactly where a wiring fault could be.

Pretty cool stuff. I'd love to move my main fusebox under the dash.

Hardcore. So what's required for the self etching primer- just clean and spray?

Looks fuckign awesome man!

I quickly re-sprayed my engine bay when I took out my Greddy kit and its already turning shitty. This is definitely in my future plans for the car.

Keep the pictures and info coming!

This may be inspiration to further delay getting my car together.

same as with any paint process. A thoroughly good clean with a degreaser and paint prep.

SEM sells a good 'canned' self-etching primer - you should be able to locate it at any competent auto/paint stores.

Also, as far as paint finishes go, if you don't have access to a compressor and gun, do yourself a favor and find a local paint shop who will mix aerosol cans. I had PPG mix a couple cans of 'classic red' and clear coat to paint my GV lip and my interior floor boards. At 15 bucks a can it wasn't cheap, however, it's the only spray bomb paint on the car that doesn't look like **** 4 years later.

I don't see any mention of sanding (of some sort) which is usually the case "with any other paint process". Is that the advantage of "self etching" or does it also requiring sanding the surface for proper adhesion.

I just finished mine. My painter told me to sctochbrite with hot soapy water. So, I went over the entire thing four times doing that then a clean water wipedown. He was happy with the appearance when he came over to paint it.

Sav hit it right on the spot. it would be easy to figure out where a fault could have happend seeing that ive spent a few hours going over and over the entire harness while i was plucking wires out.

I think i put over 10hrs so far. I would usually work on it for about an hour, get frustrated then come back the next day lol. I just wish i removed the dash in the first place to do the wire tuck, It would have made things move along WAY faster!

I first started off with kerosene to get all the crap out of the crevices and caked on dirt followed by a sanding session with 320 grit then 1000 to smooth everything out.
Sprayed on the etching primer, let that set then hit it with 1000grit
(god, i hope i did this right )

I had my whole interior, dash and everything out once, and didn't have the courage for this. I did remove the airbag brain and an old alarm though.

Heck, I had the motor out two weeks ago and barely even cleaned the bay.

U r cereally my hero.
