So i am looking at a predrilled oil pan with a 5/8in piece in the oil pan. However the fitting is not threaded but the guy who im debating on buying it from says that he ran a high temp hose and just put the hose over the outlet and used a hose clamp to hold the hose and had no leaks.

However i read that the lines should be ss since the heat but the high temp is good to 350F so i just figured i would ask for some opinions.

Silicone works. Just be ready to replace it when you see signs of stress or fatigue.

If the guy drilled the pan and threaded the fitting in, you should replace the fitting with something else so you can run a SS line.

I have used silicone with a heat sleeve before. Works fine.

That's what I was debating on doing in the long run I just wish it was drilled a 5/8th size that seems to be an awkward size to find in order to match with the fitting on the td04 turbo

I ran silicone for a while as well. SS is preferable since it will last far longer, but high-temp silicone works.

you can also slide ss braid over the bung and clamp. Or the blue push loc hose.

Same silicone hose since around 2008. I replaced it once, only because it was degarded around where it clamps, and only since I had taken in on/off a few times.

Thank you brain. I was worried that ppl would say to stray from this course but it seems like for 15 dollars for an oil pan pre tapped it seems like a good deal

I forget exactly what I've used but I haven't changed the hose since 07 when I first built the motor. Got it from a Farm and Tractor Supply hardware store. High Temp hydraulic hose I think. I did put some of the foil sleeve over it. No issues so far. Although I am probably going to do something different when I do the preventative maintenance rebuild this winter.

meh, id go SS but thats just me. Put it on and forget about it. Its also a bit difficult to check the oil drain line without getting under the car.

I used vulcanizing rubber tape to bump the diameter of the wrx TD04 drain fitting.

Silicone hose + fiberglass weave for the last 10k miles. No problems.

Tha would work to but.I ended up getting.something.like this which will allow for a cleaner tap of the pan.
