I've found a 94 that's pretty close by. It has 123k miles.

According to this, all of the option packages for a 94 have a Type 1 LSD, only the base model is open. So if I see electric anything, it will have an LSD, right?

I'm waiting for the VIN. When I get it I'll call Mazda USA and ask what option package the car had from the factory.

I'm I doing this right?

Several times per year I run across salvage titled 99's and '01 for about $4k... Get yourself MS in parallel up and running for cheap for an extra 10whp... make about 125-130whp with no other mods.

Then sign up for a welding class at your local junior college. Your final project is gods' own manifold/DP/3"exhaust. Be looking around for a 2860 in the meantime. Then just an IC/BOV/550's (I'm seriously looking at welding the BOV to the IC for my '99 build) and you're looking at 300whp capable for cheap. All the metal stock available through the college for dirt cheap... and you have fab skillz for life.

Can I haz diplomaz?

That's awesome. The best response of the thread directly after the worst response of the thread. When someone asks what kind of car to buy, and you respond "yellow"... uh...

MS is on the short list of first round of mods (actually right after tune-up and roll bar) just because I want to get experience with it well before any FI comes along.

Great suggestion about the local school too. Living in an apartment pretty much sucks when it comes to doing car stuff. A friend of mine has a house but his garage is pretty small and already half full of woodworking stuff.

Quick question, besides egay, where is a good source for salvaged NBs? I'd love to go that route, but the only ones I've found have been on ebay, and have had trees dropped on them (literally) or frame damage ( 280248732595).

If anyone has a lead on one please let me know!

All of the salvage cars I read about (unless somebody links it here) is throught Craigslist. You need one of the Craigslist search engines that allows you to search all of the thing instead of going one city at a time.

My favorite is Craigshelper, but there are about 5 good ones:
http://www.craigshelper.com/

Don't do more than about 5-8 states at at time (depending on state size) because it will take minutes to load and ALWAYS USE "SEARCH TITLES ONLY" or every ******* ******* selling HID conversions and has "Miata" in a 500word long keyword list will pop up.

I've actually got a rss feed set up from code created from crazedlist.org that lets me see all listings under Cars/Trucks that contains the word Miata and is less than $4000. Unfortunately it doesn't update immediately and that's why I missed the $800 92 w/hard top by a half hour or so.

So unless they are selling the car in the Parts category, I should see it.

Ah, the joy of a car that someone else has already hacked up:

-non-OEM wiring
-missing interior pieces
-dirty underbody from oil leaks
-dubious motor
-"o hay guyz y iz my motor clicking wuz 10psi too much boostu on a stokk ECUz?"

If you are going to keep the car for a while, get a car that's stock so you can do it the way you want to do it.

Oh, and the kicker? It came with a hard top! FREE CAR!

Brad went to his house....yesterday to get it.

Well I hope it doesn't explode and rip his body into fiery, bloody shreds when he starts it.

How many Miatas does Brad have anyway? Because I don't have ONE yet!

Other: I'd take the 4K and pay it down on a 2004-2005 mazdaspeed miata. If you look around and be patient you could find one for 13K or less. Payment on $8-9K is under 200 a month. Stock it puts down 154 rwhp. CAI and MBC will get you to 184 rwhp. DP and a few other mods will get you over 200 rwhp. If you want 250rwhp, send you turbo out for a $500-700 upgrade, buy a hydra and bigger injectors and you can see 250-270rwhp. Easy stuff. It already handles pretty well too so you don't have to spend much on suspension parts for a while.

hey shitstain. the sunburst is super rare, and if your looking at a stock miata why not look for something a little different than red or black. also most sunbursts are in great condition with low original miles. read a little about the car you want to buy so you can actually know what your talking about. go back to honda tech.

Stock is the way to go, then you KNOW what has been modded and how it was done. There is no question as to the quality of work.

how the **** have you made it to 279 posts without outting yourself as a jizzmopping ------?

You're the moron I loved selling cars to years ago. Just throw down a little downpayment and not think about the monthly. I mean **** dude, everyone has a car payment, what's wrong with dumping $600 out my ******* for the next decade? Besides, there's nothing like modding a car you don't even own!!!

Wow, I didn't know that the color yellow was so much better than any other car color. I mean ****-tons faster, lighter, better structure, and it's scientifically proven that yellow cars have lower miles.

"What kinda car you got?"
"Yella"
"Dayam!"
"Yup"

Retards like you are the reason Mazda can make money by releasing plain ol cars in a different color and charge more. Sunburst, to my knowledge isn't even one of the special ed edition colors, just the least popular normal color.

So besides being rare because no one wanted a yellow Miata to begin with, explain again why they are better?

Master the English language, that way when you **** it up it looks like you intended to. I have no affiliation with Honda Tech (again, stupid, I didn't mod my car), but you should go back to Miata.net where color is important.

Hustler took care of the other retard. I thought I made it clear that I wanted to spend up to $4000. I mean hell, I could go put four grand down on pretty much any car, or **** even a boat, but that wouldn't really answer this question, now would it?

miataspeed1point6 and Savington: I agree with you, however, I am not opposed to buying a car that has a few things done, if it's been tastefully done. I certainly wouldn't mind a roll bar being installed, or maybe some snazzy yellow paint job with bedazzler beads all over it. But, yeah, I think stock, or nearly so is the way to go. Chances are that I'd wind up ripping out any mods done previously when I put on the turbo. I/H/E = **** off. Wheels? Better be lighter than stock (which probably won't happen)

So basically, unless someone here (that's not a **** up) is selling a highly modified car, I'm not even gonna look.

Yes cause .net is exactly where i hang out all the time; Again do some ******* research. In 92(that would be 1.6 or, NA6CE, noob) Mazda released the sunburst yellow a limited release of 1500.that makes it pretty ****** rare and special a special edition wouldn't you say? Because of the fact they are so rare people tend to take better care of them and leave them stock. dipshit

Since your so new here, if i said anything that was dumb before and didn't have a valid point, hustler would have ripped me a new one when he made fun of msydnor now wouldn't he?

Oilstain is appropriate cause its something that happens on accident and no one wants around.

I have to go take a ****, so I'll be brief:

Miata and Rare don't belong in the same sentence. I don't care what ******* color it is, it's a Miata. Billions served.

your question was looking for opinions as well, if you want someone to spoon feed you with what you should do wrong site. go do a search

EDIT: you asked for peoples opinions of what would they do if they were just starting out. i would start out with a sunburst as a base and go from there.there would have been no problem but you had to be a dickbag.

I did A

Bought the best car/price I could find.

Did upgrades to the brakes/suspention along the way, wasted no money on things like Headers, as Turbo was the goal.

Had fun for about 5 years in "NA" form and saved up the money to do it (turbo) right the first time.
