Default Need some help deciding on hardtops

I found a company that makes CF hardtops and sells them complete for $1200. Thats with seals, an acrylic window, and a total weight of 15lbs. Now most people are trying to sell used factory tops in whatever color for anywhere from $800-$1200. And thats usually with some minor wear and tear, used to say the least. Wouldn't you say its worth it for the $1200 to just grab this CF top, rather than paying 3/4 that, if not the same for something heavier, maybe the wrong color, and used?

Just trying to decide and I have a hard time when it comes to dropping this much cash on one item. I really NEED a hardtop living in CT with our weather, so no matter what I have to buy one, just which one.

So what say you?

Well, if i were you i would totally go for the CF top complete for 1200 bucks...

Mind sharing this to other members since im sure other people would be interested, heck maybe even a group buy?

I think with the cf hood + top you will want a trunk lid too so you might want to start looking into that as well.

Edit: My biggest worry would be fitment of that top, maybe see if you can either check one out or at least look at one of these tops before you do pull the trigger

If you need this because of cold weather, doesn't sound a like a CF top with a lexan (read: plastic, scratchable/scuffable whatever) rear window will really fit the bill, and the extra $3-4 bills could be spent elsewhere. Glass window with defrost will work better in winter.

If this was a race car that is a different story.. Also, have you seen these CF tops in person and are you sure they fit 100%?

Or take the $1200 and buy a winter beater.

I emailed the seller to see about pricing, shipping, fitment, and a group buy. If anyone is seriously interested, please post here.

My biggest concern, is shipping. Shipping is from the UK. But I would be down to pay a bit for shipping, assuming its not completely outrageous.

What do you guys think about it?

For $3k! Theres also others for $1k, but thats without seals and a window.

There was a used Axis power racing one on ebay months back. I was watching it, ******* thing sold for $800! I just didn't have the money back then or else it would have been mine. Same guy was selling a pair of the CF seats they make for $400!

Yeah, I can't see how shipping won't bring the final cost way up. If I could pick one up for that price though I might be interested. I already have a hardtop so I could sell mine and essentially get a CF for little to no extra cost.

Just got an email back from the seller. He said this top has been fitted on several MX5's already and is 100% proper fitment.

Also gave me the shipping price.

Anyone wanna take a guess?

Would you say acrylic rear windows would scratch the same as an acrylic fishtank? Back in the day when I sold them I remember how they scratched easily, now talking about acrylic brought it back to memory. Hmmmmrrr.

They call it PMMA glass, that googled me to acrylic. Is there different types that maybe hold up better, or is acrylic acryclrilic? lol

Tell us the god damn price or I'll shove my size 12 steel toed boot up your ***.

I'm replacing my 1/16" thick lexan rear window with a sheet of 1/8", exactly like the targa, my current one was great, survived washes just fine, but its about 6 years old, so its become opaque and the original fastening method is wearing off.

I would snap your leg before you even lifted your foot off the ground.

$1362 shipped to the US. The listing says 99GBP like Sam obviously saw, but I figured that was completely wrong. Not by much, I was surprised. $190 to ship. Still talking about a group buy possibility with him.

Good to know your lexan held up for years, that makes me feel better. On my old headlight setup I had smoked lexan covers on them and from what I remember they didn't scratch like the fishtanks did.

Seller told me 129GBP, that googled out to be $190. I was figuring closer to $350-$400, so $190 is pretty damn cheap.

In the email I gave a ballpark number of 5 people that might be wanting to buy, just to see what kind of answer I get. This is my christmas present to myself if I buy it.

man, for that price I wouldnt even consider anything else. like you said yourself: most sell these for the same price used and abused, and this thing is not only new, but cf, and for the same price shipped. go for it man. I know if I had that kinda cash to throw down this would be a no brainer.

god I need a hard top

Not to get off topic of cf hardtops, but you might want to think about looking around the southern states on craigslist and the auto salvage search engines. I picked up a hardtop about two months ago for $300 in Kansas (not a southern state I guess, but I'm in Oklahoma).
