Default My dyno day

So I finally got the car to the dyno!

Started off bad running into problems with a choke when we went into boost. I had no idea about the overboost protection setting so it took awhile before we found out that was the problem, but it was all uphill from there.

We ran out of time tonight and the owner told me to come back tomorrow and we'll finish it up. I'm lucky I was hooked up with this guy through a buddy cause he's letting me stick around and help out tuning the car so I can learn. Basically he's doing the driving and I'm doing the computer work. I'm actually liking it. At first I was like **** megasquirt and tuning, but I'm starting to learn so its alot of fun.

Tomorrow the plan is to finish the tune we're on now, then do a emissions tune, and then a high boost tune. Right now as it sits I'm making 221hp and 200tq, and that's on the wastegate only, no MBC hooked up. Sits right around 8psi but spikes to 10psi or at least it seems. Tomorrow we are going to hook up his boost gauge to verify.

*Does anyone else have an issue with a hiccup right around 3800-4200rpms? It seems like no matter what we do (lean or rich) it still hesitates right at the same spot. Any advice?

Strange that the hesitation wouldnt tune out. How is your plug gap and what plugs are you using?

Great numbers, I bet its fun.. I cant wait to see what it makes on high boost.

Yeah the hesitation is way better than it was, but numbers up or numbers down it still hesitates right at the same spot. The plugs were at .34, then we dropped them to .30 or .25, I forget which. The plugs are the common BKR7E's. Its funny, I had them memorized without even realizing it when I went to the parts place to pick them up.

Thanks man, I cant wait to see what it'll make closer to 15psi. Cant say if its fun though, not yet at least. Its still up on the machine, I'm leaving it overnight. Right when we were closing up his shop a guy dropped off a 427 cobra that is ******* MINT. I will be sure to take an assload of pictures tomorrow.

It's a long shot... but on my MS-II, I had it switching VICS at 5,000 rpm, and I had a hickup which wouldn't go away. Turned out, when it turned off the coil (at 5k), it would send a back-emf which would momentarily wig out the board. Putting a "flyback" diode on the valve helped.

Perhaps there's some inductive load you need to tweak, too?

My car apparently had the same issue...here is the thread my car's PO started about the problem...

go to accel wizard and tune your enrichments....in the least turn it all to 0ms and it wont kick in at all. this will cause lean spikes before you hammer it, but it's surely better than now.

Not sure what you're running, but I had similar hesitation issues with bad plug wires. Don't rule out the easy/stupid answer.

Yeah I'm happy with the numbers so far for sure. I want to be somewhere in the 250ish zone, but at the same time winter is on the way and I don't need to go crazy right now on the numbers. I might try and see what the most I can make is, then drop a few psi. Spark table isn't really touched other than dropping everything up top to 20 and everything down bottom between 20-30.

The wires are 2 years old new, but have 0 miles on them. They are stockers, NGK blue. I have Gospeed's set so I can always try them if it comes down to it.

It'd be weird since they're brand new, but it'd be the first thing I'd replace and check. I've had too many wild goose chases trying to track down a stumble only to find out it was my plug wires.

In the car at the dyno right now

We just changed the accel settings to all 0's and re-tuned the fuel table. No more hiccup. I love this forum!

As the car sits its making 224hp and 205tq. Only change from yesterday was the accel wizard stuff and a little on the fuel table.

Going to do some more runs now

Just turned up the MBC to 13psi

Made 250hp and 231tq

Now going to play with the 10psi map some more. So I was incorrect before, I was actually at 9-10psi making 221. We are going to try and bring that number up now.

Make sure you don't bump your timing more than 20 up top. Can you do me a favor and ask him how much he would charge me for like 3-4 pulls. And doing my own tuning. Pm me a price

I took a quick glance through your build thread but I didn't find what I was looking for. What GT28 are you using and 1.6 or 1.8?
