1994 1.8 rebuild questions
I have a 140 k 1.8 engine that i just baught, and acording to the seller it ran fine when pulled from the vehicle. I would like to do a rebuild on this engine. My plan is to pull it apart and clean everything, have the head checked by a shop for cracks and to make sure the surface is true. Then i plan on checking the bores in the block to make sure they are in spec. I plan to clean the block, hone the cylinders (if they are in spec) and then replace piston rings, main bearings, rod bearings, and gaskets. What do you guys think? Is there anything else i need to do, or maybe am i doing some things i may not need to. I do plan to install a 13g turbo on this engine some time.
Also, i was lookin up parts online, and ginuine mazda parts (rings, bearings, gaskets) seem to be about twice as much as the ones i can get from the local discount auto parts store (checker auto) Would it be ok to go with the cheaper brand on some or all of these parts, or is it worth the money to get the ginuine mazda parts? I know the old saying "you get what you pay for" but i know some times there are excepions.
