do you want to do the coolant reroute?! or just up and move the thermostat to a new location?

I think he's talking about a reroute.

I would love to see a good step-by-step on this before I dive in. What's needed, how to w/ pics, that sort of thing. I've found some threads on dotnet but most of the people there seem to have already done it so no one goes in depth.

A good reroute pictorial would be a good add to the DIY projects thingy brain

No good pics, but this is what I did:

- removed all water from TB and intake manifold

- moved water from back of head-> mixing manifold
to back of head->turbo->top of radiator AND
back of the head - > top of radiator (yes, two paths out of the back)

I am not home right now where my data is but I measure my water flow at several places (pulled a hose and ran water into a 5 gal bucket to measure).

Pros:
1) Got pretty good flow out of the back of the head.
2) Got good water flow to my turbo
3) Bypassed the mixing manifold so I can actually cool my head

Cons:
1) Added about 20 extra hose clamps to my car
2) Water from the back of the head is bypassing my thermostat

Sorry for the sketchy details. Have been meaning to put this on my website for quite a while. Maybe I'll work on it this weekend.

That a good explanation LYT W8, but while I understand the concept, I have trouble visualizing the steps to get to that point. Add to that that everyone seems to have a different way of achieving this and.. very confusing.

What I'd personally love to see is a step-by-step how to coolant bypass your 1.6 Miata cleanly and without the use of a welder or solder.. But I might just be dreaming.
