I've heard the 94+ cars have less assist... but I wouldn't know. I DO know that my car's PS felt like a Cadillac (compared to my Porsche) and I couldn't stand it, even with a 310mm wheel. So I took off the belt for fun and it was unbearably heavy. Then I drained, looped, plugged, etc. Now it's perfect with the 12 inch wheel. My chick even likes it better and she's tiny 5'3 113lbs. So it's not too heavy; I'm only running 195's though; I have no idea what my alignment settings are. A sides affect to all this is that it encourages the recommended practice of keeping both hands on the wheel as much as possible.

My powersteering belt wasnt hooked up when I bought the car, and it was horrible. I reinstalled the belt and I love it now, but it does feel really loose. I might loop the lines and try that.

I voted yes

My first and second Miata's both have power steering. I bought my third one last December, and it is manual. It did drive like crap when I got it, but after a couple of changes, and driving it every day now, I have gotten use to it. It's not that bad.

On the road, it turns just fine. Paralell parking takes a little more effort, but it doesn't bother me. Honestly, when I first got it, I had decided to put power on it. Now, four months later, I have completely changed my mind.

The absence of the pump, tank and hoses will give me more room for more important things that are coming too.

I had powersteering and now I put a manual rack on it. PS was a lot better, quicker transitions, but manual steering is lighter and it gives you a lot of space to route the IC piping better.

Is anyone using the "Depowered" rack??

You get to keep the power rack ratio and lose the drag of the hydraulics.. I’ve never driven one but I’m curious..

I'd say the looped lines method is 90% of the benefit of the full FM de-power (based on zero actual experience, going off of testimony of others). You're not trying to force fluid through the pump, all you have is the little friction from the seals.

I have had them with and without. On a NA with no ps and A/C there is definnately a power difference. It was cool either way. Pro's and con's for both.

BUT I LIVE IN TEXAS!!!!! I will drive a rusted out A/C' d Pinto with paint buckets for seats before a Lambo with no A/C.
It gets hot here.........There is no need for power that includes deleting an a/c in the south. I don't care if it is a drag car. I have to wait in heat till I line up. LOL
It is real simple. Disingage the A/C with the button.
Besides without a/c down here you could't sell it if you wanted to.

I weigh 150 and am 6"3'. I can't put on weight no matter how much I eat, and I eat around 4000 to 4500 calories per day. Don't do sports anymore either, just work. Ha to the nerd thing. I hate programming, but love networking. I like a bunch of other nerd stuff though too. Science FTW.

I'll be deleting my PS this afternoon or tomorrow just going to loop the line on the rack and get rid of all the lines and pump.

i was driving home from picking up the lil sis from school with my blown water pump, as its only a 1/4 mile away, and as i was rolling down the big hill to my house i just killed the car so as to not have it overheat, i was swerving back and forth to feel how it felt without assist. it was glorious. . . then i had to kick it back on because i wasn't fully aware of how much much power brakes actually assist XD
