SR not so much worth doing imo, RB would be interesting, but you could probably do an LSx for the same price.

Very cool this is a possibility. The other kit a available is laughably expensive. Might I suggest a different engine? Seeing as the company is in CA, the smog **** state, it would seem silly for them to produce a kit that will never pass smog in their own state.

F20c, 1uzfe, 13b, or renesis? Just throwing engine ideas out that come from cars that are FR setup and stateside. Perhaps a FE3 kit for those of us who can't modify oil pans, hack up and reweld intake manifolds, make engine mounts, and make headers? Would keep the engine in the Mazda family, so it would be useful in classes that require sticking to a Mazda engine.

I'm with ^^

SR swap is crazy expensive for what it is. An FE3 kit would be ****, I bet it would sell really well.

I'm definitely going with an SR when I build my next Miata but I'll be starting with an NB I think. LS1 swaps are awesome (I'm currently dropping one into my S13) but I'm partial to having an SR powered car around. I've been driving them continuously in various forms since March of '99.

Yep people have been doing them in B15s for about 6 or 7 years now. Travis Burelle down in NOLA (Forced Induction Racing) builds them for customers and some guys up in New England now does them (and recently started doing P11s too). Another guy down in Florida did one in his '99 SE (B14) but that was a one off.

Agreed. I did nissan for a few years. Sr's are good motors and a high rev boosted motor would be cool in a miata but with the money you blow on that swap you could do some crazy s**t to a 1.6 or 1.8.

like what?

ive done some crazy stuff with a 1.8 and the cost per HP is pretty insane. i was just under 10k for my built 2.0 motor and even then i was only looking at 400whp. probably could have made more

an SR with bolt ons, bigger turbo, and cams can handle 400whp. ive even heard of stock block SR's putting down 500whp.

I totally agree here. I guess I just have a different veiw living in CA. I'd rather find a different swap and not have my car impounded. That is why I'd like to see an fe3 swap kit. I'd just say it came from a 95 sportage and be done with it.

I think for the swap to be legit out there the engine has to come from the same year model or newer and it must retain all the factory emissions parts.

Yes it is cheaper than getting the same power from another engine. But that wasn't his point. Point is it'll cost over $10,000 to swap the engine in and then get to 400hp.

Yeah, but it has to be an engine from the US market as well. Sr20 is not, and the Ref guys are used to them from all the 240s running around.

Ok. I've never been in a or even heard the sound of a car with a turbo RB engine before. Serious possibly noobish question:

Why?

Why bother swapping in a cast iron anything, as opposed to just a BP with forged internals? Is it because RBs are extremely cheap (as compared to LSx/5.0) swaps? Is it because they sound incredibly awesome or something (this I can understand)? Or is it maybe for RB love? Not asking this to talk you out of anything. Serious question is serious.

Rb25/30 with stock internals will make 450 rwhp, down here is OZ the engines are dirt cheap as are SRs.

For me being in Oz where turbo nissans are everywhere I dont see the appeal to an SR conversion.

The rb helps out alot with the s13 's notorious understeer. Good power and even weight distro. Plus as you said they sound good but thats just a bonus of the swap.
