Here is a little how to I threw together for putting projectors in the turn signals.

I used these projectors:
They are waterproof and very compact. They don't have a highbeam though. So be warned.

You will also need a 9005 bulb that isn't right angle. I'm using an HID kit (from ddm tuning) so It shouldn't be an issue. (they are normally straight out.)

Wired it up to the battery to test. Much sight distance. This is with halogens. I will be running HIDs.



Slides right into the hole. Needs trimming

Now drill holes



Drill from the front to fit a screw driver in.



Put some screws and springs in for adjustment





Pull apart turn signal. (hope the tint doesnt screw up the light output too bad. If it does ill get clears)

I will update as I get the bottom mounted and wired up to the headlights.

Cutoff is one thing, what about foreground illumination?

I love how much space removing the flip up lights creates. More room for air filter and charge piping

I'll post more pics when I get wheels back on the car. But it is surprisingly good. The way projectors output seem to fit well in small areas.

Look how the laundry detergent bottle is lit up in the 3rd picture. Thats just with one projector.

It makes the bay look much cleaner. Now I just need to make a plate to attach the pop ups to the hood.

Nice project so far! What halogen bulbs did you find that aren't right angle? Also, are high beams not required in your area?

This should free up a ton of intake room and weight, I'll have to add this to the winter project list.

Nice work, can't wait to see how they turn out. We really need a cheap, clean, simple, effective solution for losing the popups.

I've mounted low beam bulbs in clear ebay turn signals on all my NAs. It's cheap, clean, and simple, but the lighting sucks.

I got HIDs. Didn't look for halogens that aren't right angle.

No inspection so highs aren't required. I wish there was a 60mm projector that also had highs, and was waterproof. Let me know if you find one.

The issue with the bulbs in the turn signals is that they are shitty reflector housings. So far I think I'm really going to like them. The only issue right now is the smoked lense makes it a little dark, im hoping the HIDs shine through it otherwise I will have to get clears.

Hella does make a high beam projector. I bet I could fit it next to my low beam if I decide I really need them. Maybe next year before MRLS.

Another thing you will need is a 9005 pigtail:

No idea whether they're ****, and it might look a tad rice, but ever consider sticking something like this into the "mouth" opening of the bumper? Form follows function, and all that.

I have those. They are ****. No light output, they make good "hey don't run into me" lights when its foggy but they don't so anything else. I also have broken 2 of them from rocks and gravel.

After seeing projector light output I won't ever go back. I'll take some videos tonight but basically the majority of the light is outputed from a single .5 inch beam in the middle. So they work just fine put back.

I've played with the LED bars. And I want happy. No distance lighting. Even if they look good up close.

wow very cool! any thought to using the LED bulbs out there?

as far as water proof high beams are concerned. just run one of the thousands of off road LED options out there. the tricky part is finding a low beam option that won't get you pulled over.

I haven't tried expensive LEDs. And cheap LEDs haven't impressed me.

Hella makes a 60mm high beam that I bet I could squeeze in next to this one.

I actually found another thread where someone said they had done that.

RallyLights has a couple of Hella modules available. Their 90mm combination Hi/Lo LED headlight module had be had for a paltry $710 each.

GE's "Nighthawk" series drop-in sealed beam replacements (7" round) are a comparative bargain at "only" $320 each.


I wonder what sort of prices the junkyards are going to be charging for OEM LED headlight assemblies when they start showing up...

You would have a hell of a time fitting a 90mm in there. 60mm is tight.

I don't think I would gain any performance going from 2 HID projectors to 1 LED thing. Plus I don't like the popups.

i was recommending keeping the current projector for low beam, and a light bar for high beam..

the real question is how can you not like pop ups?
