Serious question:
Is there a K&N filter that I can stick on the end of a '99 t-body that clears the hood? I need a lot of things right now and I don't care to spend more money on an intake.

why not spend like another 30 and get an ebay intake or something? where its at least a few feet long and wont kill your lowend?

Spit on it, bite it's ear lobe and slowly push the throttle body into the coupler. It might resist as first but a change in position might help both of you.


Coupler onto throttle body doesn't sound as good.

Your intake length theory might not be entirely true. While throttle body trumpet length adheres to the "go shorter to move the torque up the rev range" concept (as far as I know… I bet there are exceptions), judging a suitable intake hose length before an intake manifold is a bit trickier. I'm testing at least two different intake hose lengths for the F20c next week on a dyno - I'll be sure to post results if anyone is interested.

As an example, here are a couple of plots of an F20C. The car was tuned with the shorter intake, which is the red line. Then a longer intake tube was added, which is shown by the blue line. As you can see, the longer intake actually slightly reduces midrange and boosts the very top end - the opposite of what you might expect.

I'm not sure how an F20C relates to a miata (different just about everything), and I don't have cold hard data (but reputable other people, like Emilio, have weighed in on the subject with opinions similar to mine).

What I do know though is that on my green 99, with 01 block and 99 head, all else being stock or nearly stock, installing a little elbow with filter like pictured above, made a VERY significant decrease in lowend/midrange torque and response.
We went back and forth between that and stock, just to make sure, and confirmed our findings.
Hustler will probably ignore this post, and I don't really care. This is more for people that are not stubborn as a mule that might see this later.

Do I want to build this intake out of 2.5" silicone or 2.75"? I'm thinking the bigger one but not sure and I need someone with a brain to do the math since I'm functionally retarded.
