Default Help with what to buy

I am planning on turboing my miata and looking for advice on what you guys think is the smartest route.

I am thinking of buying everything in this thread for ~2700

https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-par...jectors-81320/

But am thinking maybe I should spend more and get a brand new FM Voodoo II + clutch for ~4k

On 1 hand I save 1300 and get WAY more parts (exhaust, MS, injectors, clutch) but on the other hand for the 1300 I am getting a complete turn key solution with a much better turbo. I am fairly new to this as well so I would be relying on my smart friends to help with installing and tuning.

I am not sure if I really need the MS solution from the start and the voodoo may be fine to hold me over for a few months until I want to upgrade. I know the general consensus is FM no electronics + injectors + MS but that will put me over my budget for now.

You want MS from the start. Actually, you want MS before you start. That way you can learn to tune before you have boost, and have a higher chance of blowing **** up.

While I do agree, I have a capable tuner I trust that I will be using when I get MS

its not 1999 anymore.
anything that's not a full EMS is a pointless waste of money.

That kit has some nice upgrades though, like the 10mm TSE studs.

Save the cash and get the used kit, obviously negotiate a bit off

I can see from your sig you like the sr20 how does it compare to the gt2560?

No idea, I've only had a greddy and the sr20. It's smaller and quicker spool than the 2560, but your 1.8 would probably spool it just as quick.

To be honest I think I am going to go new. I can get the FM II no electronics, MS II and a clutch for ~4k. I have rx8 injectors already. Not sure if its worth saving 1300 for a used sr20 and exhaust :/

From what I understand about your goals, it sounds like you want to build RedCarmel's car, but with a megasquirt. Search for his build thread, and let me know what you think. It's a very simple build that is as dependable as a stock MSM.

Just looked at his build, pretty much what I was about to get. I am second guessing myself now though and think a FM kit may be the safest bet for me. I have never boosted a car myself and am worried I will overlook something if I don't go with a complete kit. I just bought a megasquirt 2 off of a member here to hopefully I can get that and my injectors in next week, get a base tune, and then see if I am ready to pick up the FM kit.

Where in PA are you btw? I am in chester county and could use all the help I can find.

Stop telling him to buy it! I am already in talks to get this kit, say F it to a MSM and just get my car all shady smogged when the time comes.

Also PM me your paypal I am just going to send something your way to make up for looking at that car for me awhile back. Sadly I don't think I will be in your area anytime soon to buy you beer or what not.
