Default Racing Stripes?

It's something I've noticed that is not talked about much here, I know a few members have them, but just out of curiousity what's the general consensus of racing stripes on a Miata?

While I've been looking for another NA I've noticed quite a few for sale with them, either vinyl or painted on. Some look good and some don't, mainly due to color. I've even considered a couple of them. I envision it with Tuckin99 replica flares, wheels and tires to fill the flares, and either a turbo or V8 under the hood, seems to work out ok in my head. I've always thought they looked right at home on a Shelby Cobra, but never really known what to think about them on a Miata.

What say you?

Just for reference, here's one for sale on m.net and the second is a picture I took this past weekend (which shows my Miata vs. Cobra example well):

I've considered it, but always wanted something subtle like Trent's. Mine's black, so I've thought some shade of grey/graphite.

Can be cool. Have you checked out the feztastic stripe gallery? Lots of no-no there to decide to avoid.

Black with dark grey/graphite/"ghost" looks good on many cars.

Where is that gallery?

I'm tempted by some silver double stripes. Too many red Miata's running around. Not sure how it would look with black wheels and a tan top, though.

i ve seen one locally, simple, hard top w/ matching color, with a single stripe off centered maybe 4-5 inches in width?

looks clean, and i never like miata's w/o front lips til thhis one.

Depends entirely on the color combination, quality of work, overall look of the car and that sense of rightness that can't be quantified. Some are fugly, some look great. There isn't always a way to point to exactly to what made the difference.

Considering doing it when the Titanium is put down, just ghosting a slightly darker shade of silver. My paint guy already gave me grief about the color change, why not go all out?

Quoted for truth. Many striped Miatas don't do it right and end up looking stupid. But if they're done right they're ****** awesome.

I saw that process and lamented it.

Are you going to go the V8 route next time?
