Default Rear-End shunt = One dead MX :(

************...

Was pottering along at traffic speed, no funny business. Broken down car in the road, so the car in front stopped pretty suddenly. I stopped fine, few m short. Saxo had other ideas and slammed me into the car in front :( Apparently he'd been sketchily overtaking people before this happened.

My Eunos ownership has barely begun, I've only just sorted out the niggles it had when I bought it in November. What a pain in the *** :(

Two weeks ago: https://www.miataturbo.net/prefabbed-turbo-kits-3/td04h-greddy-t25-ebay-cast-t3-manifold-54297/

So the MX is 10" shorter, off at some police pound and my neck is ******* caning.

Beer and England winning the Rugby (whilst nice) hasn't helped*:\

Hopefully I'll replace it, I had only just started to get 'into' it.

What I'm after may depend what I can pull off this one before it gets cubed. I've got a feeling I'd find a standard one relatively slow tbh.

What's annoying is I got this one at a really good price, given that it had all the basics specced up already, Torsen,1.8 spec brakes, clutch, braces, rollhoop, exhaust, coilies, etc. :(

Of course now I've actually had it for a few months and am more acquainted with the turbo craic, I may aim for a 1.8 and DIY it.

Guess I won't be fitting the replacement wing I bought this weekend!

Sorry to hear man. That's always my biggest fear when modding cars....some douchenozzle will come and wreck all my hard work. I'd tear all the goodies you want to reuse off of it and then sell the rest to a junkyard.

Well at least the dude has admitted fault and his insurers have been in contact. Will wait to see what numbers they suggest before taking it any further with mine

I'd prefer to keep the car yeah, and transfer whatevers good across to another.

Just make sure you buy the car back from the insurance company. Where is the car located at now? Until a check is signed and handed to you, and you hand them the title, the car is yours. So it should be parked at your house.

I completely agree...unfortunately police towed it (and the others) as it was blocking a busy road and they didn't want to wait for mine to turn up.

I'm going to the yard it's stored at tomorrow to have a look in daylight and take pictures, not a whole lot I can do at the moment.

Call a tow truck and have it towed from the yard to your house.

Also check the diff. The carrier arms have notches cast in them that are supposed to break when whacked pretty good. One arm may be cracked completely through.

Ouch!

Thanks guys, I'll have a look at the diff. Obviously it's beyond returning to the road. I've had it hauled to my parents drive for the moment, having pulled the rear bumper off, my dad has started and moved it around outside his house with no problems, it's still running nicely. Unfortunately my back is still not in good shape so I won't be under it for a while to either check, or remove parts.

At first I thought I'd get a 1.6 and swap everything across. However...I have ended up buying a 1.8, 1994 Eunos Roadster J-Limited II to replace it. Obviously the Turbo gear won't swap across easily so I've decided to take the longer view and get a better base car.

Incidentally, I'm over in Santa Fe, New Mexico on business this week, so I've ordered a DIYPNP from the diyautotune and the Flying Miata diy manifold/DP set. Hopefully it will all get to the hotel in time so I can lug it back to the UK in my check in luggage...I haven'y got a clue what it'll weigh though!

I've been pottering around on here reading posts and not really posting, so I'm sure I'll be posting more actively once I get the parts and start putting it together. My intention at the moment is likely to go the homebrew route, Churbo etc.

So...my next purchases will be WB02 and injectors. As per the common advice on here, my plan is to assemble and play with the MS n the 1.8 in NA form before I start putting the Turbo gear on.

Hopefully I can sell as much as possible of the GReddied 1.6 to fund it!

Dave
