I AM... errr was... BOOSTED!!!

well, got it all on today except the exhaust. I started it up open downpipe just to check for leaks or something...which i expected here or there.

I found a pretty bad leak around the fitting for the oil feed. Tore it off twice in an attempt to solve the problem ... the 3rd time i had it off i found the fitting that was loose... got it all ready to go in, and in the midst of my frustration....SNAP. I broke the F'in addapter in the block!!!!!!!!

Now i need to order a new adapter from tuner toys, wait till next week, pull off my intake manifold , and hope that i can get the piece of the fitting out pretty easily without having to drill/ tap and/or helicoil my ******* block.

Hopefully this is a smooth task. The good news is everything sounded great when i started it up.

My question is: how hard is it to pull off the 1.8L intake mani? Any tips?

Difficult. Like, you may want to consider removing the head first difficult.

It is not too bad...just make sure you disconnect the battery before you start working on it. The starter and alternator are both nearby and you don't want to arc either of these bad boys.

Wash down the area you are going to be working on, less dirt and contaminants to work into the inner parts of the engine.

Once you have the manifold off, cover up the individual intake ports with rags...you don't want stuff falling in there.

I had the same issue but my fitting was brass, good luck with it. That steel adapter is stout, you were wayyyyyyyy overtightening it if you broke it.

It's not that bad taking the intake manifold off at all. Savington is being a whiny titty baby. I did mine this past summer, take your time it's a simple process. Taking the head off would be a PITA in comparison.

the reason it broke is because i was applying a torque on it by using an extension with a 1/2 inch drive ratchet and was essentially twisting it, not over tightening it (that much). My mistake, live and learn.

removing the IM is pretty easy. dont really need more than 12mm stuffs. In fact I'm going to be swapping an IM today.

since the adapter was brass, you can probably use an extractor bit to get it out.

How about PB Blaster and drilling a slot into it?

my plan is heat, PB, an extractor, and some pure F'n luck.

The last thing you want is a hardened extractor breaking off inside the fitting. If it's not budging don't try harder.

You'll probably have to end up using left handed drill bits and slowly drilling it out one size at a time, eventually with the center hollowed out it will spin right out.

Its a done deal. The extractor did the job. The one steelshaving was removed with a magnet and i flushed the motor. everything is together with no leaks!
