I have the Viper 5002 with the following options:
tilt sensor (scares the **** out of me sometimes when jacking up the car lol)
glass-break sensor
backup battery
backup siren
It's awesome, it's loud, it's great. Though sometimes when I lock (arm) it, the alarm goes off 5 seconds later and the display says it's something with the trunk. I don't know why. It's not every day though. Something is obviously wrong but I don't care enough to figure it out.

I had a crazy Clifford alarm wtih loJack on my corrado. I never heard it nor did I see the car again.
The best anti-theft system I know of is pulling the fuel injection relay when you park it.

car alarms are better than nothing. My del Sol was stolen and I had no alarm. So, once you have a car stolen, you'll get an alarm if you have half a brain.
I also have quick-release NRG hub, and a hub lock. Nobody is stealing my car without a flat-bed. And even then, the alarms will be blaring the entire time and I'm sure a cop would hear it along their way to the chopshop.

It takes seconds to cut or rip out a siren. Cars get flat bedded or dragged vs driven. If a thief wants the car... they will have it. Period.
If you seriously think an alarm will stop a real car thief... you are definitely mentally deficient.

Hope it has a back up battery. If not, within 30 seconds, anyone could have the trunk popped and the battery disconnected.
I'd rather have a silent alarm thats hooked to my key chain. Anti-theft = a single .22, a chipper, and a bunch of hungry fish.

I have tried several. My friends have bought the $800 fancy alarms.
The best I have found is sold by asianwolf.
Has a remote start feature (has a manual transmission mode, by I prefer modding the auto setup to install on a manual), complete engine kill if the doors are opened, someone sticks their arm inside the car with the top down, pedals are pressed, the e-brake is operated, the gear shifter is moved, the hood is opened, etc..
Also, the system warns you via a pager/keyfob.
There's one model where a rotating camera takes eight pictures of the offending *******, and sends them to you.
The range is damn near two miles, to boot.
I thing I paid less than $130 for the whole thing, and it took me about a day and a half to wire and install the thing in the car. I definitely took my time and did a very clean job.
I highly recommend those alarms.
