Just wondering why us miata people dont support our valve controling ability like other makes? We all know Honda is built on its V-tec, Toyota has i think
v-vti right? Nissan has there own version, and now so does Mitsubishi! What brought this all up is that each of those you can buy Contollers for to adjust the engagment point, but not mazda! and i know a couple of miatas came with some sort of valve control! So is ours just not as good?

the 1.8 bp came with a thing called vics it opens a butterfly flap around 3500 rpm. it opened up the intake manifold all the way....

The only reason i ask is because if youve ever race a honda with one or the smaller v-tec engines like a 1.5 zc that engines rated at about 120 whp and when next to it on the free way we would be equal in 5th gear then you hear it, then it will start pulling Rather hard on me. Damn it! And R kelly is busy at a water sports convention in germany. lol

Some clarification:

Miatas have never had anything related to VTEC. The variable intake cam timing found on the 01+ is more like Toyota's VVT-i (but not VVTL-i). It advances and retards the intake cam relative to RPM and load and such.

The ZC is a DOHC non-VTEC engine and makes 130 flywheel hp. The only (older) 1.5 liter VTEC engines are VTEC-E, which disables one intake cam at low RPM to promote tumble and allow a leaner mixture. VTEC-E is purely for economy.

It's a single cam motor... would be pretty funky for it to turn off its only cam But it is for economy.. the vtec-e 92-95 VX motor. The d15b is the jdm sohc vtec motor though... it puts out the equivilant of the 1.6L sohc vtec motor (d16z6 and d16y8) and the dual cam ZC motor.

Can you tell I'm still a honda person?

btw... i love my boosted 1.6L honda... but I'm looking forward to my boosted 1.6L Miata more

Ok so, next question, I have a 1.6. Is the miata engine better for boosting then one of these? If yes Why?

Better for boost than a Honda engine? Yes.

Hondas have floating cylinder liners and weaker rods, and usually higher compression ratios.

The Miata engine is a solid-decked (IIRC) iron block and is considered good to around 12 psi.
