the duralast gold is 3 yr free replacement. pro rated after that.

i picked up my third (second free) battery 2 days before that 3 year period ended. so whatever hustler just said is bunk.

triple bunk. duralast #3 (no longer an AGM apparently?) is failing to hold a charge. it's not even been a year.

No longer AGM. Mazda stopped using AGM batteries somewhere with the NB. The oem replacement is an interstate flooded cell.

My redtop optima is failing on me now too, since the cold weather has come. I keep a battery tender on it but it doesn't like cranking over. Or I have some bad wiring going on again with my ignition switch. Jumpstarting it fixes the issue so it's probably the battery. Booo.

My experience with optimas has been either hit or miss. I had one that failed and one that lasted until I sold the car. Their service is horrible though, might as well not come with a warranty. I can't say I'd bother with them anymore.

FWIW, my Deka lasted a year of sporadic use during this swap and wouldn't hold past 10v. Replaced with an Optima yellow which has been drained to 5v a couple times and continues to bounce back when I throw a charger on it.

I know that the blue-label battery which the dealer parts counters in the US sell as an OEM-equivelant replacement are no longer AGM, however I wasn't aware that any NA or NB ever left Hiroshima with a flooded battery.

Hmm what a coincidence! I've been having a problem with my yellow top this past few days. It dies every morning now!! Took it back to advance and I just passed the 1 year mark! So now I'm trying to find a replacement.

I was more inclined to get the optima since they reinstated their 3 year free replacement. I'm not sure if that's a sales tactic or a quality improvement, but it's pretty good.

Screw AGM, now this is cool (nano-phosphate lithium):

Voltphreaks - Products [High Performance Street]

Built-in dead battery protection and overcharge protection too:

The cheapest one is $730. lol

Why don't they make AGM or whatever the old OEM batteries are anymore? Mine has always worked even in sub-0 weather, and it's 16 years old. It has stopped working as well recently ever since an alignment tech discharged it with the brake light and then overcharged it with a charger, but nevertheless it still holds a charge to start the car.

In for another hassle-free battery that lasts 10+ years.

Here is AGM (it is a Deka 8AMU1R with a Marathon sticker):

Mazda MIATA Battery: BatteryMart.com

and here it is with the original sticker - but the guy wants $40 for shipping

MAZDA MIATA BATTERY DEKA A.G.M. DRY CELL:eBay Motors (item 200390233701 end time Dec-31-09 07:18:42 PST)

I don't know if these will last for 16 though - it is pretty much up to whatever your luck is.

I have had several red tops and I can never, and I mean never, get them to recharge and last after they drain once... If I have them go down, it's usually just time to trade them in. That being said, the parts stores around town are really good about just looking at the date stamp and replacing them. I've taken two of them to the local O'ripoff and they replaced them with no questions asked...
