My car was rearended by a 08 Tahoe today, and I picked up the repair quote a few minutes ago. I'm afraid they are going to try and total the car, but the only thing really wrong with it before the damage was the paint job.
The Damage.
The thing that really has me worried was the 2248.45 quote. They guy who hit me though he was going to get off with paying me $500.00 cash. My MSPNP cost more than that. The guy had the tahoe, and a 05 M5 on the insurance card, but he only has Liability coverage from a company I have never heard of.
I'm really worried.

Well that rear quarter panel is the unibody (aka frame), so they can only pound out and bondo that section, and since its wrinkled and kinked, it'll never be the same. It'll never match the the bumper, the light will never fit quite right, and your trunk will most likely never line up either. I'd take the money and buy the car back (you can do that, right?) then buy a cheap NA with decent paint, swap your go-fast bits on/into it and part the rest.

Oh yeah that's going to be a total loss as far as insurance is concerned. Just get as much money as you can and do a buy back if you want to keep the car. How does your neck feel?
Also you would have to be an idiot to have liability only with those expensive cars! I wonder what the deal with that is?

If buying it back is not an option, go ahead and start replacing eveything with oem parts while you still have the car cause once the adjustor sees it, eveything will have to stay. As mentioned, buy another shell with the insurance money you get and swap everything over. I've seen two NA shells on craigslist for less than 1k in the last month.

Looks like it is still drivable-so that really puts you in the "driver's seat" no pun intended...your car isn't being held hostage by some insurance company. I HOPE YOU CALLED THE COPS AND IT'S DOCUMENTED TO BE THIS GUYS FAULT. I wouldn't even talk to my insurance about it-only go through his since it was his fault obviously. Advise them that it is in their best interest to fix the car because otherwise it will cost $x dollars for them to pay to have all of your parts swapped over to another car. You should have the car put on a frame alignment rack and assessed for any abnormalities also...YOU call the shots because it's your car and this guy fucked it up. And how does someone drive an M5 with liability only-if it is financed (most likely the case) the lienholder should require full coverage-of course a lot of ghetto ***** just buy short term comp then drop down to liability-so what I'm saying here is that you need be careful about being too hard with the insurance company because after that you have the option of taking the guy to court in a civil suit-but if he's broke then the insurance company might be your best bet. If the car frame is ok and drivability is satisfactory I would get the highest quote you can find for repair then get his company to cut you a check-then have it fixed the cheapest way you can find on your own. Stick it to them...these ******* half-*** driving their SUVs are going to kill someone-I have an SUV and know how to ******* drive-but I see PLENTY of dumbfucks who don't know or care of the death potential they are driving.
