My "buddy" who was working my motor was apparently fired today, and I can't find him.

What does it typically cost to get a block bored, line bore, balance, assymbled, and whatever the **** else I need done that I don't know about because I'm a punk bastard with a checkbook? I want this god damn ************ built NOW.

including assembly I would say to expect to pay about $1200-1500 depending on where you go. If you include a valve job (I would) add about $250.

the counterweights... right? not the mains. BP & B6 cranks are factory nitrided. Cutting them down, means re-nitriding to regain some of the original strength. 1200-1500 sounds like what I would expect locally too. I'd look for somebody who has been in business for a very long time.

right. the weight has to come from as far away from the center as possible for it to make a difference.

also many cranks have been found to be less than straight from the factory, so a check for straightness--and correction as necessary--is in order. it's probably going to be included by any reputable engine builder.

i've also been tossing around the idea of getting the crank coated. there are a couple of good ideas out there. i like the dry film coating that sheds oil, lessening windage losses.

You guys all saw the HE-X crank right? 11lbs of weight removed, it looks like razor blades they shaved so much off. Someone should ask if they renitrided it or anything.
( I just learned about nitriding in metallurgy today. Cool stuff)

haha I got a 46" LCD and PS3 instead of some parts, it happens.

Strangely enough my GF was happy the money wasnt spent on the car... Next up XBOX 360
