Default 275bhp Mazda MX-5 breaks cover

Top Gear - Mazda has revealed the most hardcore MX-5 ever built: the very green GT. But before you start rubbing your chubby, sweaty palms in anticipation, the GT - or MiniHulk - is not for sale. It is, in fact, Jota Sport's entrant for the 2011 Britcar Endurance Championship.

Built in conjunction with Mazda, the boffs at Jota spent 400 hours to prep the shell - dipped in acid and now 17 times stronger than required by the FIA - keeping the car's weight down to just 850kg.

This is very good, because with that tweaked 2.0-litre motor chucking out 275bhp, MiniHulk shoots from 0-62mph in just three seconds (bye bye, Aventador), and on to a top speed of 160mph (hello again, Aventador).

It gets a six-speed sequential paddle-shift gearbox, carbon doors, polycarbonate windows and a fetching green metallic paint. The interior has been shown the wrong end of a skip, too. It makes its debut on Sat 26 March at Silverstone in a three hour endurance race. Hulk Mad!

What do you guys think of this guys? The acceleration it amazing!!!

I think the color and graphics look like ***.
275 I'm guessing bhp (brake horsepower) is measued at the fw? In that case we have a bunch of cars more powerful than that.

I guess, MEH?
I dunno lol

Sweet! I not only have 275hp....I have 275whp!!! That should make my car go 2.7sec nought-60.

Well, except for the 500+ lb difference.

I won't lie the car looks pretty ugly...maybe to some it will look good, I think that 275 is just NA power though so it is good if that is true! The weight is what I am amazed at, then again the price for that work is probably enough to by your own little race track and some cars!

I'm guessing 275bhp is achieved without boost.....which is quite the accomplishment.

they could have easily dropped in the 2.5L and made over 300 to the wheels with the same mods. Isn't Brian Goodwin making like 270rwhp with his 2.5L?

Yeah, but then the marketing department couldn't claim that this is from the "same" 2.0L as the stock car.

So.....Jota spent a bajillion dollars in order to basically replicate the power/weight of Goodwin's yellow car?

Sanctioning rules could have a play in what engine is allowed. I would speculate they have to use an engine that is offered in the model, even if the family of engines has a bigger option from another model.

Edit: Mr Stevo beats me to the punch.

+1 on needing a hardtop. It's funny when I see race-prepped Miatas without hardtops - it's a dead giveaway of who's actually racing them and who's just building them.

Can't complain about a "green" race car now can you

I sure hope they get tax deductions for that much greenness!!
