Default 99 miata or 87 5.0

I paid off some of my credit cards, and am selling the 91 turbo miata. And a 90 turbo miata, me and my brother went in on it together, to race. And have decided we aren't going to race this year.

So once both are sold and the credit card terminated. . I will need a daily gas saver.

First option. A low mileage 87 GT Mustang that my dad helped me get in college. He had hurt his back, and we went in on a family venture to start a business and survive. We didn't have the money to buy the car. My dad prayed all night to help me get a sports car. We stopped and looked at this car and the guy droped the price almost in half. It was a miracle. I don't care what anyone says.

Anyway, my dad has since passed away. Everytime I think of it, I remember us burning rubber down the road. The car would out run the 93-98 Cobra's and sometimes pop wheelies. The guy said he would sell it back to me.

Second option. 99 Miata BRG Green. Bone stock.

I would only run 7-9psi on the 99 with a voodoo box. Something peppy to go back and forth to work.

The 5.0 Would look like brand new. It has 30,000 miles on the tranny I threw in it. And 133,000 on the motor. And it is centimental to me. But I'm sure It would take a year and $3000.00 to get it where it has a new motor and suspension. And be a brand new car.
But it is a crazy RAGING STALLION!!!!!!!

And there are not that many this nice left out there.

But then again. The miata is like a new bone stock car.

miata 27 Hwy/mpg. 5.0 26mpg.

What do you think. Yea I know this is a miata forum. LOL

Miata is turn key.
I only need ebay IC kit, voodoo box and a china charger to turbo the Miata.

I also have a roll bar and brand new adj. Ilumina shocks in the garage.

The 5.0 screams the way it is and runs great. But I recently aquired Cobra R rims, and a wet NOS kit if I decided to use it. It might push 11 sec with that.

The mustang really just needs headlights and a paint job. Interior and body are wounderful.
I also have a hookup with paint jobs.

Coupe or fastback? I would say the Mustang. I always liked foxbodies.

Id also say it would depend on the prices. If I were to get another Miata to daily, it would have to be and stay bone stock, which would be sort of boring. A Mustang in stock form can get decent mileage for its age/technology, and still be fast.

Todd, is this a daily driver? Do you need 4 seats?

How important is the sentimental aspect to you?

Is the price on that 99 cheap? I'm sorry it's not July. I would've bought it from you for my son.

I'm figuring on $5000 to 6000 to have the 5.0 finished with a New motor and aftermarket cooling system. And it is centimental, but I can live without it. My dad was always a sell it type of guy. But he told me to buy it back if I was ever going to get a 5.0. It was well rounded. It ran hard and got great mileage. And was always turn key.

As far as the 99 Miata. It is very nice. And I would only run 6-7 psi for low budget system. I wouldn't want to spend the money for a clutch, or enthuza exhaust..Etc. etc. I would want my girl to be able to drive it without me fearing for the car.

As far as the 5.0L, she would never drive it. She couldn't push the clutch. LOL. And they turn curves like roller skates attached to a turd with a acme Rocket on back. But for the 1/8th mile. WHoooooooo!

Oh-yea, the 5.0 is the GT hatch back with ground effects. Non metalic candy apple red with titanium grey ground effects. Two tone interior Red and Charco Grey from the factory. And the one thing different from all other Gt's. This car had A/c, GT seats, and cruise control. With NO OTHER OPTIONS. That saved 150 lbs worth of weight. All Gt's usually came loaded, moon roof, PW/PL, sometimes P mirriors.

This car was special ordered to only have a/c & crusie control with the look package. And it would bark 4th at 85mph. The exaust would shake cars beside it. LOL There was nothing sleeper about it.

But the miata is turn key no work on anything. i guess the mustang would be too. That guy fixed everything on it and just parked it for 5 years.. Driving it just enough to keep the battery charged. It lightly smokes under throttle. I could probably just have the local back yard mustang guru re-ring it, seals and bearings. I bet he would do it for $450-550 installation and all.

no matter what you buy, my miata will be faster, lol.

So you will now be miata-less? Weak. Maybe you should go for a ride in mine before you sell it off, because I have no problems running over blown "fairly stock" blown Cobras. Imagine what it will be like on a road course.

Usually I would say Miata but...

It sounds like you're really leaning towards the 5.0 yourself. Why else would you even dare to post about Fords on this forum? jk

If you've already done the Miata thing, you know what's there, and what racing is like. You apparently don't want to do some incredible build on one that you never got to do, and just slapping a turnkey kit on may be boring if you're not excited about the outcome, or what you're putting into it.

Sounds more like you're excited about the Mustang, and you can't beat sentimental value. I got this project going last year for the same reason. This Miata has been in my family since my mom bought it nearly new, and was mine once before for a few years right out of high school. I wanted nothing more than to resurrect it to the glory it had once known, and then some. And I am enjoying the hell out of doing so.

My best buddy also has an older fox body fastback that he has started modding, and he loves it. If a side of you just likes to go fast, they are lots of fun. He's never been big into curvy roads or autocrossing though.

On the flip side of that coin, a fellow motorcycle rider once told me regarding our hobby: "Never sell your bike until you have another one parked in the garage next to it." I did just that and now don't have a bike, probably won't get another anytime soon, and cry a little inside every time a nice one blows by.

It's too easy to get out of a hobby and never get back in. So if you're really partial to Miatas, not having one may take the joy out of anything else, especially if you feel you'll never have another one. Now if your new honey won't mind you going back to the ex-girlfriend from time to time, no biggie.

Figure out what you really want, and just go for it.

EDIT: Kudos for paying off bad debt. Dave Ramsey FTMFW!

Yea, the yellow miata turned out crazy fast. I installed the 1.8L rearend and it changed everything. It actually hooked up some in first and second. I bet it added a full second to the straight line track time.
The gearing was much better. I would of liked to had 3.90 gears. But the 4.10 was alot better than the 4.30's.

There is no question who would win in a 50mph punch. But from red light to red light. The mustang would own.

But if i put a SC on the 5.0. Hmmmm. Naaaaa....... It would suck gas and tear up eveytime you turned around. speed doesn't do for me what it used too. I like it. But I don't have to be the fastest on the road. Just one of them LOL

I think the miata is a better and wiser decision. It is like new.

The 5.0 is 22 yrs old. I just don't want to pick up a mechanical nightmare. I think I would just rebuild the motor, upgrade the cooling system, and fuel system. That way things wouldn't just keep coming up.
But if I was going to get the 5.0 back. Now is the time. Otherwise, I need to put it behind me.

But yea, keeping your credit in check always comes before cars. LOL

As long as you keep it stock, sticking a ghetto fab china charged setup on there this is no longer the case.

I'd go mustang.

I have a 2554 I could use. But i was planning on letting it go with the red car. I have a FM3 manifold and down pipe. And I would straight use bandaids. They are pretty reliable for low boost. I'd drive the red 6psi car anywhere.

But I do agree. The Mustang was always rock soild. And no tunning envolved.

Does anyone else have any problems with the forum updating today. I have to post to see any replys?????????

The miata is basically this. But I would put 2004 zO6 knock off rims on it. There is one local and it looks killer Cold.

I have had my 89 Foxbody since 1993. Someday it will be done. Hit the dyno last Nov and had issues now motor is almost back together again, hopeing for 700+whp. Nothing like TQ! Love the Miata but nothing like V8 power.

I had an '86 GT for about three years before I sold it. I still miss that car. It handled and stopped like a turd compared to the Miata. But the V8 was bulletproof, parts were cheap, it was fun in a straight line, and mileage was good for what it was.

And it was a very practical daily driver. I moved my apartment twice with that car. Just fold down the back seats, open the hatch, and a desk will fit in the back. Large dogs too.
