I've been using Amsoil for the past couple of years. Would have liked to see them test that also. When Royal Purple is on sale locally at a decent price, I'll feel better about substituting it now.

Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5w-50 one quart, then the rest Shell Rotella T non-synthetic 5w-40 (Gallon jugs at Walmart or Advance Auto Parts).

The EPA caused the oil companies to stop putting ZDDP in automotive oils this year but they still have it in diesel oils. I wouldn't run a standard engine without it, much less a performance engine. General Motors has tech bulletins out that say don't break-in an engine without a ZDDP additive anymore. GM has E.O.S. (Engine Oil Supplement) available at the parts counter for this reason. Chock full of ZDDP!

I run Rotella in everything but the Evinrude, and have done so for eight years. There are several other good reason's why.
All About Motor Oil
Very good info there, including why they can call dino oil synthetic in many cases and get away with it.

I use whatever Fully Synthetic oil I can happen to afford at the time. Typically Valvoline, never Mobil 1.

10w-40 in the summer, 5w-30 in the winter.

I've been curious about that Greddy oil, since I saw an ad for it a while back. Anyone use that?

I noticed two things about the Royal Purple oil. One, the oil in the test was the older API standard which has more of the zinc and phosphorus (ZDDP) that are your last-ditch extreme pressure lubricants when you go metal to metal. Royal purple is available in both the SL and SM ratings. The older ratings offer more protection.

Royal Purple has break-in oil that has extra zinc and phosphorus added. Royal Purple Engine Break-In Oil

Well I'm a little bias because i'm an Amsoil dealer, but i use to run Redline until i found Amsoil and now that's all I run. I may be able to give discounts to members interested if there is enough people that would run it. PM me if you are interested and ill see what we can work out.

Whatever the cheapest full synthetic is at the time. Really considering looking at Rotella though. Stuff so highly regarded in commercial diesels sounds like a good idea to me.
