Default Questions about a 91 Turbo

Hey Guys!

I have been lurking around here for a few weeks since i decided a needed a turbo Miata in my life. Its not my first Miata (I had an NB awhile back) I have found a bunch of great information and a large amount of sarcasm :-). I wen't down to look at a 91 with 133k and the less than optimal greddy turbo kit. It seems like a reasonably well sorted car saving a few issues

The Good:

Timing belt and WP changed 20k ago
Brand new clutch. Less than 200 miles on it. (Stage 2)
Greddy turbo kit professionally installed by DDMWorks (less than 20k miles on Turbo). Running 5 Psi responding to a fuel regulator, no ECU or tuning
Custom exhaust, not too loud.
No leaks
New top
Hard dog roll bar
Lowered on Eibach springs
NEW BF goodrich super sport tires.
Konei K1 race rims gloss black rims.
Clear water speakers with new USB (iPhone/Android compatible) kenwood stereo
Good brake pads and rotors
Alignment done last week
A/C and Heat work. A/C was recharged this week.
Low-Profile lights

The less than good:

Questionable intercooler installation (see pic) (Only been on the car for about 500 miles)

The air filter and MAF assembly don't seem to be attached to anything other than the turbo intake piping

Curb rash on one or two of the wheels

I also didn't see any cracks on the intake manifold, but, I couldn't tell if it had been cut or not.

Paint could use some freshening up or at least a few passes with an orbital buffer and some cleaning wax.

The First question:

Whats it worth as it sits? The guy is asking for 5300, after looking it over I think he has a solid 4k worth of car as it sits.

The Second question:

Using this kit as a base on a 1.6, what would I need to get the car to around 200hp assuming its at 130ish now.

The Third and final question:

Is anyone around the western NC/ Asheville area? Can you recommend a shop other that R-speed in Marietta? (about 3 hrs away)

P.s. This car is outside the Vin range of the dreary short nose crank issue

You haven't lurked here long enough if you feel safe asking about building 1.6.

Aww come on I have seen lots of threads with 1.6s putting down good numbers. I am assuimg the all have engine management and a megasquirt, but wanted to be sure.

And "building" is probably to big of a word for what I want to do. I am just looking for a car to run through the mountains of NC with, it may see a track once or twice, but that is not the main goal here.

And I do know it will need a 1.8 diff at some point. But considering the clutch is already a stage 2 and the suspension is somewhat sorted it seemed like a good car to start on.

i like how the hood prop is trapped under the intercooler piping. lol
May as well just remove it entirely, so its one less thing in your way

Just for reference I bought a '92 w/155k that ran with the same turbo kit for 1200. Granted it was hit by a deer, but yeah.

The **** is a stage 2? It means nothing to us. Brand and model name, that's all that counts.

The intercooler and fuel management are junk and next to worthless. You might be able to reuse a few couplers, some pipe, and the intercooler itself, but plan on redoing it otherwise. The downpipe is probably the stock one since he hasn't mentioned it was upgraded, so it's garbage. He also didn't mention drilling and tapping the pan, so plan on doing that. You're basically buying a good condition '91 with a greddy manifold and turbo. I'd replace everything else turbo related.

As for the rest of the car, the stereo and wheel/tires sound nice, the suspension sounds like garbage.

Sounds like a $2000 miata with maybe $500 in turbo bits. I wouldn't pay over $2500, $3k if you're desperate and the car is really, really nice otherwise.

Is there a link to the ad so we can make fun of the rest of it?

Well, it does have the shorty mudflaps. Maybe worth $2500.

I think $2500 sounds ridiculously low. I would think a solid $3500-4k car if it's nice. I've seen decent turbo'd NBs for 6500 or less though so I wouldn't go over 4k unless you absolutely have to have an NA.

I guess my question should have been, Can I get a clean turbo NA with a reasonable amount of miles on it for 5k?

The answer seems to be "maybe"
