What to keep from the wreck
Well as some of you know, I recently totaled my car. I can't bring it back to my house, so I need to figure out what parts to keep that I can sell for some kind of $$.
So far I know I'll keep my torsen, and aftermarket goodies like tein ss, roll bar, koyo if its ok(mainly passenger side wheel impact), wheels(-1), exhaust.
But what other body/drivetrain parts are worth keeping. I was thinking hood, the good door, soft top, seats, trunk, that thing under the trunk, tail lights, and maybe engine if I can put it somewhere.
Am I forgetting any parts that I could sell for some $$.
Help would really be appreciated here as this was my first car, I put every cent I have into it, and now I have nada.

dude, everything will sell. strip it. take all the nuts and bolts, wiring harnesses, interior trim, relays, fuses.
people are always looking for:
window mechanisms, manual and power
side mirrors
driver side arm rest
center console
radio bezel
headlight lids so they can experiment with vents
rear finish panel(you might have meant that with "thing under the trunk".
controls arms, especially front lower ones
1.8 caliper brackets
i've seen the hard brake line and fuel lines running to the back rust out so those are worth taking off
drag the carcass away after on a flatbed

Paul is right, everything should sell... it's worth it even if you have to borrow someones truck to transport and keep it all stashed in your living room. Just lay down some plastic and you can basically part the entire car except the damaged shell.
Take detailed pictures of everything and make a huge post at m.net with reasonable prices and you can sell it all... if it's worth it to ya.

Well it looks like I have come to an agreement with this guy. And he is not a crusher person, he actually parts out miatas as a business.
If I give him 4g and my wrecked car minus the drivetrain and other aftermarket parts then he'll give me a clean shell from a 96 that has a bad motor and put my motor and parts into it as part of the deal.
I know I could probably make more $$ if I part it out myself and then get an old 1.6 and do the swap, but this is a hell of a lot easier, and I get a much newer shell for the swap, plus the shell car is really clean with great looking paint, and I get all the work done for me! (I don't have time for it)
I think this is a pretty good deal, anyone think I am being royally screwed?

not royally screwed, but i would imagine an NA with a bad motor to be worth 3k or less ... even with a clean title. If you wanna get on the road again quick, maybe go for it but if you are strapped for cash theres better deals.
Wait did you say they will install motor and everything for you? That sounds better ... and if you needed to get a clutch installed, throw that in the mix too.

Ya, they will install my entire drivetrain, motor, tranny, torsen and all of my aftermarket parts except for the roll bar (they seem to think some special tools are needed). I'll bet that I can get them to install a clutch while they are at it, but as of now it will just be another stocker, as after this I'm not going turbo anytime soon with these empty pockets.
And firedog, like I said I'm keeping my torsen, but I think the shell car may have one, and this guy is really good on prices, so I'll try and run the vin to find out if I can get you one.

I just junked the white '92 I bought on here this past summer. Even if you only sell a few things, it's definitely worth it to buy it back. I sold basically NOTHING on that car and still made a bit of cash.
Car : -$200
Registration, late fees, etc: -$72
Mudflaps: $80
Rear finish panel: $100
Motor: $250
Rear diff, halfshafts, hubs, and control arms: $180
Rest of the car, bulk metal payment: $63
I ended up around $400 up, and I left a LOT of stuff on that car. Seats, two perfectly good manual windows, most of the interior (all the good stuff was busted), trunk lid, the shocks and springs. If I had been given more time (had to dump it fast before heading to school), I probably could have milked another $400-500 out of it.

Chassis is damaged (doors, top, and other stuff doesn't line up).
And like I said I think I am going to go with paying 4g + my wrecked car in exchange for a clean shell and the labor to swap my drivetrain and various parts into this clean shell.
So I may be able to grab a couple of parts (rear trim pannel) but more than likely the guy will just get most of the car. (give me any special orders, I might be able to get them)

Now I am confused, as I know that getting this car and parting out mine will probably yield less cost in the end plus a lower mileage car, but it is a lot more effort and time...
