slave cylinder problem? help please!
I need a little help.
still kinda new here so I'd appreciate the help.
I have a 93 1.6 miata that is fully built with 60 trim turbo
I had some problems shifting. it was hardd to get in gear at times and when it was in gear, even with the clutch down, the car would roll slowly as if it was in gear.
I replaced the slave cylinder and that fixed the problem. smooth shifting. perfect everytime.
that was about 5-6 weeks ago. the problem has come back.
my question. can a slave cylinder go bad that quickly? maybe it's something wrong with my lines? maybe too much heat?
I checked the resevoir and fluid is not low. do I already need a new slave cylinder? (the used a factory one for replacement)
any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Try bleeding your slave cylinder again real good. It is possible that you got some air in the line, possibly related to the heat. Well you are down there look at the slave cylinder and see if it is leaking or if there is fluid getting inside of the plunger. You might have gotten a defective one. I spent about 5 bucks on a rebuild kit for mine and it hasn't given me anymore problems for quite a while now.

I don't recommend rebuilding a master or slave cylinder that has already failed. I would replace them. However, rebuilding a cylinder before it fails, IMO, is a fine idea.

So you'd be willing to save $35 on the chance the internal scoring of the cylinder walls is so bad that they still leak after rebuilding, causing you to end up buying the new part anyway?
After 16 years, I figure spending a few bucks on replacing wear items isn't such a bad idea...but apparently I'm in the minority ;-)

No, not at all. I have a hone. And don't mind spending $30/yr to rebuild the cylinders. Again, I think it's a good idea to proactively rebuild the working cylinders. And a bad idea to rebuild them once they've been contaimenated. I think we're on the same page.

I think I misdiagnosed the problem. what I do know
- slave cylinder replaced and problem fine
- month later, problem comes back
- replace master cylinder
- then I think I have a leak in hose
hose wouldn't just go bad.
- so I think the master cylinder doesn't match with exisitng line?
maybe there is a leak somewhere? I used tokico clutch master cylinder.
so my question? where is the leak? the line shouldn't just go bad. so it must be because it doesn't match with the master?
how can I diagnose and does that sound more reasonable?
