Default NA or NB for a track-day/race preparation?

I'm wondering about selling my 1.6L NB FL (yep.... in Italy we have that) and stop my project for a while, cause I'm moving to Germany for work for a couple of years.
I will continue buying stuff for Miata during this period.... so I'll for sure buy again a Miata, but I will use it only for a race/track-day.

My target is around 280 whp for the highest power configuration, so not a huge prep, but very fun to drive

I'll mainly use it for time attack and some times maybe drifting ( I know.... but sometimes it's funny!)

Now my question is: which one is better? NA or NB?

EDIT: if the section is wrong, please move this thread!

Most of the parts interchange, so it doesn't really matter what you buy parts for (except for stuff like ECUs and exhausts).

You want a '90 or a '99. The '99 shell is about 40lbs heavier but it has better aero. The rest of the stuff should come from the NB - front subframe, motor, tranny, and diff to be specific.

Why a '99 and not 01+?

If I had a plan back when I bought my car, I would have purchased a cheapo shell. But I probably would have been completely clueless on where to begin.

Well, I know that the 90% is interchangeable, but your reply Savington is very important for me. NB is stiffer than NA for sure (for only 40 lbs), and I will have a better aero, so......

I don't want a NB FL because:
1) NB are much cheaper than NB FL, and except for some stiffening parts (useless if I install a rollcage) I will just have more electronics (VVT i.e., that I don't think will be so useful at least at the initial stages).
2) NB FL are heavier than NB
3) a lot of 1.8 NB has an embedded engine problem, so I can pay it even less, as I'm planning to rebuild all the internals!

Why do you say 01+?
