There's a lot of info about the bethania door bars on this site, and I'm interested in them, but the boss frog version looks like it might have more seat clearance: Miata Performance
I searched and can't find any reviews or anything about them here.
Wondering if anyone has them and how they like them?
Another option is the diyroadster bars. They adapt to the Hard Dog bars and offer much more seat room, with less door card room. I'm running them and like them, but I do not run door cards on my NB. I believe NA door cards are unaffected by these bars.
Blackbird Fabworx is also coming out with some door bars. Don't know the ETA yet though.
I wonder if he is attaching at the floor like everyone else or at the kick pannel area. I like his 6 point roll bar design that uses that mounting point but it makes install much harder.
Zerek fab is another option. I'm using his door bars on my NB with NA door cards and sparco sprint seat with no issues.

When I asked Moti as I was interested when buying the GT3 roll bar, he said he'd make door bars for any car that comes to the shop. The mounts are welded to the kick panel on the side and would rather have control over the quality.
I'm using the hard dog door bar and only had to elongate one hole on the Blackbird fabworks roll bar for it to fit. Plenty of space for my leg, it's out of the way. Ingress/Egress isn't as cumbersome as I'd expected, but it does take a bit more effort to get out. Resting on the bar completely eliminates the wear and contact of the side bolster on Lotus seats. I'll probably drop into OGRacing since they're local and get padding.
The Zerekfab and the Bossfrogs are horizontal at the seat bolster, this would make me think that it would be more a pain in the butt to get in and out.

I love my DIYroadster door bars in my NA, don't really want to cut up my NB door panels to make them fit. More room than the frog ribs and they look a hell of a lot better too. Once you are sitting you can't tell they are there.
It seems like it'd be a good idea to attach the door bars to the door sill, but that's exactly where I rest my foot and the rest of my ankle on long drives. Would not want them attached anywhere else further forward, even if it makes them better.
Does anyone know of anyone who has gotten t-boned with door bars, and whether the bars caused extra injury?

Well, I have seen a bunch of debates over there. Sounds like half the people think you're going to get hurt, half the people think they increase safety, and nobody has conclusive proof either way.
OK, well, the responses give me a lot to think about. Looks like nobody has really bit on the BF bars, but I like the look of the DIYroadster ones if they're still being made. Thanks guys.
Its hard to predict if its going to help or hurt during a side impact crash. Depends on the vehicle, angle of impatct, type of seat, belts worn, etc. I would say you would definitely want to pad the section around your hips if you were running a stock seat. While the bar is going to prevent the door from coming into the cabin more, it is not going to prevent your hips from contacting the bar. Think about at the point of initial impact, you are going to move less than the car and there is a very high possibility in a stock seat that your hip will hit the bar. Your legs will have the same issue, so really padding all the way down the bar is going to protect from soft tissue damage during a side impact.
It's definitely going to depend on the crash. I got tboned pretty good a few years back with a rollbar and no door bars, structurally the car held up great. My wife was sore for a couple days but I was fine.
In our situation I have to think we were better off without the door bars. I suspect if you added some significant speed to the other car is where you would start to be grateful for the door bars. Even a cracked hip looks pretty good compared to having a car in your lap.

As an east coaster with a GT3, this is very useful information. I also like the way they fit eith the lotus seats.... I need to decide if I am going to go that way or not...
I've got the Hard Dog door bars and feel safer in case of a side collision. I have no data on the subject. I don't know if they would help if a bigger truck or SUV side impacted me due to the height difference.
