Cooling System Census
We all know that the OEM miata cooling systems aren't made for forced induction and/or front mount intercoolers restricting airflow. What I am trying to do is take a census of what temps people were seeing on the stock cooling system before upgrading.
What temps were you guys seeing on the freeway with a stock cooling system and what are you seeing after you upgraded?
Please include specs of your system:
bigger rad, reroute, coolant ratio, etc..
Ill start with mine:
stock cooling system
FM medium IC
60% water 40% coolant.
Runs between 12 and 1 o clock on the stock gauge.
(215+ in TunerStudio)

Running a Greddy I didn't really have a problem overheating, even with the stock radiator but I'm not racing and only really get on it to pass cars and the occasional thrill for a moment.
I had a credit with Brian Goodwin and upgraded to a Koyo 37mm. This kept the temps virtually static till it went bad. I now have a CXRacing 56mm (or thereabouts) and same deal. I'm just about to install a BEGI bypass simply because I want to even out the temps on the cylinders in preface to installing a Megasquirt PnP.
I haven't had a real temp gauge so sorry, this is the best I can give you.

Koyo radiator, the medium size one, not the largest capacity they offer - wanted to keep the additional water weight down.
I have a 12x18x3 intercooler blocking it, and have made aluminum ducting above the front splitter behind the bumper that ensures all the air that passes into the front mouth sees its way to the intercooler and/or radiator.
Only other cooling mod was changing to a 180* thermostat and putting both fans on switches in the cabin so that in traffic I can run them both at will.
65% water, 25% antifreeze, 10% water wetter
On the street, I never ever see the stock gauge move. On the autometer, which reads from the upper radiator hose, it never goes above 190 on the street. According to megasquirt which reads the factory sensor, during hard pulls it hits 200* then settles back down.
At Laguna Seca, for 20 minute sessions, max oil temp was 215* and max water temp was 210*
I strongly believe in adding additional water capacity with a bigger radiator, along with it being all aluminum so that heat won't break it down for turbo applications. Other than that, the stock cooling system really is pretty sufficient until you get crazy with the setup.
