Default Thinking about Autokonexion hood with gills

Hey all,

I just recently discovered this site and the Autokonexion hood and am considering purchasing one. I basically have a 92 with a FM built 1.8 running an FM2 with TDR Intercooler. Been fighting overheating at the track for years(8 to be exact) and have tried everything except a vented hood including a coolant reroute. Never really warmed up to the FM hood and have been told it is no longer available.

Dont really want to debug the overheating issues here as it has happened with various motor/turbo and IC setups and everyone I know has the same problems especially at the altitude we race at >5300ft. I am typically fine up to about 85F and then the overheating starts.

That being said, every picture I see of the Autokonexion hood makes me want it so I am ready to try it out.

A couple of questions:

Is the carbon fiber version 100% carbon fiber or just FRB with an Carbon fiber outer layer.

I hear mention of people being less than satisfied with Autokonexion, anyone care to elaborate (either in this thread or via PM).

What timeframe did it take to get your hood?, was it shipped UPS or via truck.

I have asked these same questions at Autokonexion but responses seem....kinda slow.

Thanks,
Gary

Well lets see, they don't give a **** about the customer, and who in their right mind packs a hood in a box, no padding of any kind and expects ups not to **** it up for starters.

Try Clubroadster.net. They are a sponsor over there and you can find alot of info in threads about the hood in question.

The hood works awesome, is no problem in the rain at all, and Autokonexions service has been nothing but stellar for me. They packed both hodds that i got from them super well.

all I know is somemone asked him about functionality and he started crying like a ------ and rather than answer the questions, he "got all hoity toity" and started about how he makes aero **** for NSXs and **** like that. I'll but a case of highlife and a chainsaw and do something that works since he couldn't provide any real data.

Yeah, I got similar responses when I dared to question FM testing on their hood. Not that I can blame them. I have had a magnehelic gauge for two years just for testing and still have not done it.

Pretty sure I am going to try it. Only issue I think I might have is interference with the top mounted IC pipes.

I'm prett sure the hoods are FRP with a CF skin. They are not 100% CF. As for his service, he has a very good work ethic and know his stuff. He has many companies asking him to fab functional/show body kits for them. He is very busy right now with sema comming and has a many projects in his shop.

As for the functional vented hood, many people on m.net have blasted it in the beginning, but ended up buying it once they saw it worked in decreasing under hood temps.

Already tried and it won't work even with 1.5" pipes. Would have made my life alot easier if it would though. I may consider cutting into the front vent a bit this winter when I repaint the car though to make it work.
Also, I can no longer use the hood lift as the strut is to strong for the f/g. I like the hood but it does have its drawbacks.
My g/f, in her eloquence, equated it to getting a ******* and then immediately getting kicked in the *****.

Thanks for the inputs everyone, I pretty much figured I would be hacking/modifying the vents for the IC pipes and possible even the BOV but the FM hood has clearance issues as well running a 1.8 with a 99 manifold in an NA.

Just did some pressure testing on my stock hood

Will do some more testing tomorrow, specifically where the main autokonexion main vent is, ran out of daylight today and the popup headlights REALLY mess up readings
