Um i cant get my axle out, any ideas? ive tried using this puller but so far the thing wont budge, also took a few whacks at the end of the shaft for good measure. I would hit it harder but the metal is bending ??? wtf is it so soft for? Anyway so this is where im at ... middle of a diff swap:

Start spraying PB Blaster and then apply heat to the hub. Don't go too heat crazy though, no way to tell how it'll treat the bearings. Then... I'd beat on it :P, Before you beat on it, put the nut back on, it'll help prevent expansion of the axle end.

Put the nut back on so you dont round the edge or whack the threads. Can you get an impact gun on that puller? I would only do it if its warrantied though, I usually do a number on them when I have to impact the. Torch the hub, get it as hot as you can. Try finding an air hammer too, those are helpful.

Best way I have found after PB blaster and heat is an 8 lb sledge with an aluminum cylinder about 2" thick taped to the end.

If it doesn't move then(in the interest of not destroying the bearings), take the hub off, mount it in a spare rim, support the rim solid, and beat straight down with the sledge. You will need to make clearence for the axle below. I had to cut one axle off to set the rim on some 4x6 planks to get it solid enough

i think im going to go get a Bigger BFH (big ******* hammer) and beat the hell out of it. I already am going to have to grind around the end in order to get the nut on as it is.

Just make sure you get the nut back on before you do any more hitting, otherwise its going to be a REAL pain..

Yeah you really want to stay away from heat with the bearings. Because of messing with the lube

Oh if you have a compressor try an air chisel too. I think that helped me some but not as much as a BFH.

I was swapping to a 1.8 housing and half shafts so I didn't particularly care about smashing it to bits.

If the axle is to be re-used, beside grinding the mushroom at the tip, get a die and re-cut the threads. You want the castle nut to spin on freely and only lock on the flat at the hub.

10 minutes with a dremel and the nut fit right on.

Did I miss something? If you're doing a diff swap on a '90 don't you have to use the half shafts from the later model?

im going to be swapping the torsen from my 97 on my axles will be too long for the 97 diff and so will the driveshaft.
