Default Changing Values in Tables Hydra 2.7

Now that I'm getting comfortable with my Hydra software and the car is running well, I have started to tinker a little bit. FLying Miata says that the map provided with the Hydra is "conservative" and developed for 91 octane fuel and that there is room for some timing bumps.

With that in mind, I decided to advance the timing in the section of the timing table that covers 3000 to 7500 RPM and from 0 psi to 13 psi. Any value above 13 psi. Or 7500 rpm was left untouched. My rev limiter is set for 7200 and I typically shift before that, so no need to alter higher values. I only added .5 degree to any value in single digits or teens and 1 degree to values in the 20's or 30's. My knock sensor has shown no detonationon the original map at 12 psi. So I feel that it is very safe. I'm going to the 1/8 mile drag strip near me for the "Test and Tune" runs where I'll be able to safely datalog.

My my question is- How do you alter that many cells accurately and quickly? I made a graph of the 252 cells to be changed and tediously entered them one by one, checking and re-checking that the values were entered correctly. Took forever. Is there a way to "globally" alter cells that you select? Or can you change the values on both ends of a row or column and have the values between them interpolate?

Anyway, the car felt a little stronger with the timing advance. Not having a tuner, I'm going to tweak very carefully and slowly, dataloggimg as I go. I'm leaning towards slight timing advances and less leaning out of fuel. My understanding is that these engines respond to timing more so than fuel in very general terms.

Last time I ran the car at a "Test and Tune" it had a Voodoo Box and was running at 8 psi. and turned an 8.9. It will be interesting to see the difference with the Hydra, bigger injectors and 4 more psi.

Thank you Curly. That isn't the manual that came with the unit. I'll practice some of those tricks. Never too old to learn.
Thanks again.

Default Never Too Old To Learn

Thanks to a link from Curly, I've been able to easily modify my maps and incrementally increase timing, while always having the previous version ready to go. I finally have seen that my knock sensor DOES work having recorded an .06v spike (if you can call .06 a spike ). Starting to be fun playing with the software. Car is running really well and I'm a lot more comfortable making changes. This forum has been a great resource.

The miata has a pretty useless knock sensor, I'd try to find a better 0-5v knock sensor to use. One that has 1 or more volt spikes during knock events. .06 is still just noise. I've had success using one from a Saturn. (GM)

The link for the 2.7 manual in this thread is dead, the new guys have not made a manual available. Anybody know where I can download one? The embedded "help" in the software is user hostile for noobs.

It IS hostile for noobs. I found the same thing. Try Flyin Miata? I never downloaded it and would just reference it on line when I needed it. If you got your Hydra from Flyin Miata they'll pretty much hold your hand and talk you thru it on the phone I've been told. I had good response via e-mail.
Ask questions here and you can get some help.

Jeremy from FM uploaded all Hydra resources to this dropbox.

I believe if you highlight what you want with the courser then type a for add, m for multiply, etc you can change as much as you want at once. It is a little confusing in the manual. I think I had to email FM for a better explanation.

Thanks for that. None of them have the title "Manual". Is it missing, or not exist? I do have an email in to Jeremy. I guess I was hoping for something of an overview that isn't going to happen. I am completely new to tuning. The base map is drivable, But some basic questions are unanswered. Stating "Make sure all your sensor inputs are giving correct readings is fine", except for the noob (me), the next question usually is, ok, define "correct reading" and what are the consequences of too high and too low, followed by, "What do I do about it?"

Bottom line is the converstation starts farther along the learning curve than I am. I am trying to get up to speed, and like to have a reasonable idea of what I am talking about before I waste somebodys time. Current plan B is to drive it to the point I trust it and drive it to Oakville (I live near there) and let Dave (Dave's Garage) check it all over.

I'm sure Jeremy will eventually elaborate (sometimes it's worth it to call him directly, since it bypassed his e-mail queue). However, it it's starting, idling and running fine, then I wouldn't worry too much. The ECU will auto-tune, so the more you drive it the better the fuel map will be. The timing map (i.e. ignition advance) can still be tweaked and you can either use Jeremy or Dave look into that part for you.
