1st Car
I guess I'm a little jealous here lately. One of the local kids that autocrosses with my club just got a C5 Corvette for his 1st car on his 16th birthday. Then there's the kid on m.net that is pimping his (theoretical) 275rwhp coldside SC'd Miata. He is 15 years old.
I just don't get it. My 1st car was a 1973 Terd brown Chrysler Station wagon. Although it did have the high end scenic floor board which allowed a close and personal view of the road as it passes by. I think it was 47.5 feet long.
The quarter panels were so rusted out that I didn't have to open the hatch to put my backpack in the back. I could just throw it through the quarter panel.
And yes I paid for it myself with the money saved from delivering newspapers. I paid top dollar....$50.
What was your 1st car?

I had a 8v jetta ($2000) for my first car, rear ended, then bought a vr6 corrado ($6000 settlement) with my parents assuming it was a 4-cylinder. I drove like a moron, then bought a t04 kit for it and put down 488whp...I should be dead. If it were rwd, I would be dead.
...the a 1997 jetta for 10 years, then the miata, and now the 2000 outback wagon.
Giving your kit a 250whp miata or a c5 is asking for asset seizure, a dead child, and a lack of responsibility and sense of entitlement from your kids.

Had to share a several cars with my older brother before I got my own:
88 Dodge Colt *crashed
73 Super Beetle
90 MX6 *crashed
98 Ford ZX2
Then I had the pleasure of having a 92 Plymouth Sundance Duster all to myself.

1976 Chevette (White with fake wood paneling, and puke green interior)
1981 Celica (Donated to the kidney foundation)
1990 Accord (Traded in on the Protege5)
2002 Protege5 (Sold)
1993 Miata (Money Pit)
2005 Tribute (Mini-Van alternative)
"All that" and I'm 35.
Each and every car I purchased myself (With a little help from the bank). Tributes days are numbered, I'm thinking about a CX-7.

I was given a '90 dodge spirit by my dad on the condition that if i could get it to run, it was mine, at 16. I did some troubleshooting and determined it was a faulty TBI injector. Replaced it, and she fired right up. Drove that car until my second year of college.
Then I bought a 4-cylinder, automatic 1993 MX6. I got involved on mx6.com and learned a lot about cars in general, and the mx6 specifically. Eventually I found an LS model and sold the old 4-banger.
the 1993 LS was bought in a box, basically. I had to reassemble it from pieces. I dropped in a KLZE and drove it happily for a couple of years. Sold it when it developed an interior water leak i could never track down.
That's when i bought my daily, a 2007 Honda CRV. Not the nicest looking thing on the road, but gets awesome gas-mileage and is comfortable as hell. with as much driving as i do (put 25,000 miles on it in the first year of ownership), that's important.
shortly after the honda, i picked up my miata. Been playing with it ever since.
