In the early 90s I worked at a Western Auto one summer doing tire changes. It was going on even back then. Some bozo brought in a wheel and a tire that was about 4" too narrow for the wheel and asked me to mount it. Me and another guy screwed with it for a little while but could not get it to seat. I finally gave it back to him and told him to take it somewhere else.

So yeah it has been going on a while and I still think it is gay.

Thank the automotive gods that whistle tips did not catch on.

lol thats funny, no one at my shop takes out the valve cores including myself. I could see it scaring you the first time not expecting it though.

my 205 azenis are flush on my 8"s my 195 50 dunlops stretched!!!!
Cause drifting is such a professional drivers motorsport. And you basically just admitted right there that drifting is the ONLY reason to stretch narrow dick tires onto 11tyinch wide wheels..... :j erkit:

My 205s on 7" wheels feel just ******* dandy, and its no mystery when they start to lose traction.

I've seen a similar mounting method used on expedition vehicles used in tundra environments. The cold weather and remote locations make tradtional mounting almost impossible. Seems like it would be the case for any offroad vehicle.

heh Saml01 posted the exact video I was thinking off.

you stretch to get the stiffer sidewall with the cheaper brand tires b/c they arent as sticky as r-compounds that have stiff sidewalls that would provide the same feel going around the corner.

eh i'm leaving.

Just this past week we had a dumbass bring in a C5 vette. he put some replica 08 Z06 wheels in black on it. The front tires were 225/35/19 and rears were 285/35/19 Toyo T1R's. Man they were stretched far as hell and looked really bad. Not to mention the 35 sidewall when stretched was maybe 1.5" tall and left the lip totally exposed. He already had to bring it back because he bent a front wheel.

That whole car looked bad. It had a body kit on it with this ugly moulded rear wing and the paint wasn't a very good match. Had a ugly pinstripe thing down the side and those chrome light covers. Tacky as can be.

They grew back but only the inner third of each is very thick, the outer 2/3 are very sparse from scarring (not visible). Makes me look saturnine.
