I do agree that a good tech can make decent money. Around here a senior tech can bring in 60-85k (low end for auto dealers, higher end for road tractors and ag equipment).
It's a young mans game for sure and your working 50-60hrs a week, but yeah, I've been clearing over 70k for the past few years and the top guy in my shop brings in close to 100k. We handle a lot of fleet accounts, so most of the time they approve just about anything you can find wrong which equals big paychecks.
The way I see it, I have no student loans to pay back and if I save/invest correctly I can retire in my mid 50's and still be able to walk without a cane.
