Default Anyone buy, fix, & sell cars 4 profit?

So does anyone on here do it or ever done it? Did it work out well? Was it worth it? Share some details.

Thanx

its kinda easy to get caught up in it and over fix it and not get what you put in, not personal experience though

When I worked at Advance Auto, there was a guy that constantly bought 90's GM 3.1 and 3.8 cars and sold them for profit after fixing parts. He even got a 2003 Corolla for $500 after the owner put 4 gals instead of 4 qts of oil in. He drained it all out, filled it up properly and it ran fine.

i generally buy used cars cheap drive them a while and sell them maybe a small profit or loss but after a years worth of use i don't care too much about profit. if you really want to do it get a dealers license and go to auctions. though i have seen some REALLY shady **** come out of auctions. if you have the time and space buying cars and parting them out can make money

I've done it once with an old Cadillac, basically the guy was so old and sold it to me in MINT condition for $1500 and I turned around and sold it on ebay to a Caddy collector in Miami for $4000.

But I usually flip desireable car parts. Find some schmuck on craigslist or the miata.net classifieds or even locally that has no idea what their parts (usually stock stuff) is worth. I buy it for CHEAP and sell for profit.

Its fun if you're absolutly sure you are going to make money. Case in point I bought a set of Mazdaspeed3 wheels and tires that came off a brand new car (40 miles on them) for $400, kept the tires for my MS3 and sold the wheels for $600

i've done it a few times with Miatas.

bought my 94 Laguna for $1800, sold for $3500 - brake pads, bra over the dented nose, fixed passenger window, fixed broken cable on freshair/recirc, changed top with a good one already on the frame, front air dam & rear skirt

bought one of my red 94's for $1000. PO said it needed a new head. borrowed a friend's trailer. checked compression. Zero. checked timing belt, it was off by 180 degrees. reset the timing belt. added power antenna. sold a few months later cuz i needed the money, to a friend who helped me with the timing belt job for $2500

bought a red 90 from a friend who needed a deposit for a new car. $1000. came with hardtop, new Tein Basics, new konig heliums with new T1Rs, JR sways, CF hood. Sold off that stuff for $1900. Replaced the thermostat housing temp sender. Replaced top with one on the frame for $100-$150. Sold car for $1000

how the **** can you even fit 4 gallons?

That said, my roommate usually just finds cars that just need a bit of TLC...or kids that need money, buys them, drives them for a few months, turns them around and sells them.

Saw that 4 gallon instead of 4 quarts thing once too. Used to work at Jiffy Lube when I was 17 and this magilla gorilla like character thought that once around for the dial on the oil gun was a quart. when he got to 4 gallons the oil was over flowing out the valve cover.

At least he tried to put oil in the car. That separates him from all the other Jiffy Lube stories I've ever heard.

Reg original topic: If I had a proper shop, I would probably give it a try, focusing on cars I know something about that are not super common, easy to work on and doesn't have super high spare parts prices... Like a Miata!

But I did do it kind of unintentionally once: Bought a -89 Opel Kadette for ~$100 (paid in Swedish kronor), repaired it with junk yard parts. Drove it for 1 year and sold it for ~$250. It was a horrible car though…

Cred to Paul: Sounds like you know what you are doing there.

No this is just one of those, what is everyone wearing today threads. And I agree with BigJohn. And that this isn't a video game, If/when big john pisses a mod off enough to be banned he will be banned.

And then probably e-raped by hustler

EDITED: for being awesome and using And to start the majority of sentences in this post.
