Anyone here use binary newsgroups?
I haven't used them for probably 10 years and I just signed up for an account on Astraweb. I am noticing that my 7 gig download is taking forever (2 days) and my account says that I have downloaded 20 gigs so far. Only 7 gigs is showing up on my drive. Are these headers or something? Any way not to download them? Thanks!

Ya, the header files are HUGE for the larger binaries. You should have gotten your subscription through usenetserver.com. They will upload to you literally as fast as you can d/l. I have been using them for years now. Freshman year at school when I lived on campus I d/l over 600 dvds because I was able to d/l at almost 1MB/sec from them. Its not entirely out of the question for the header d/l to be over 2GB the first time you d/l it. You just need to make sure that whenever you check it again you make sure you update the file and not redownload it.

I use Usenetserver, 40$/3 month unlimited access, 30+ day retention, 99% completion. I've used it for about 4 years to get all my dvd movies, video games, software etc. It's not bad considering I download at about 1000k/s
I forgot to add I also use NZB-O-Matic Plus for the software and Newzbin for the indexer.

I tried so many different types of software to find a DECENT reader/leecher. So far the best i found is Newsrover. I even paid for it considering ive spent under 50 dollars on software in my whole life, thats saying alot. BTW, www.newshosting.com, 15 bucks for unlimited + like 70 day retention.
