I never really liked it that much until I tried it. Sure, it's not a racing sport, and it's not about the limits of grip and what not, but it does take skill, and it's what some people chose to do. That said, I wouldn't really do it that often, it's too expensive and horrible on a car.

I guess I don't really like it, I just don't see why so many people here have a problem with it. To each their own.

I don't think it's so much the drifting that people dislike as much as it is the "drifters". I'd be surprised if most people on the site didn't enjoy giving the car a little too much gas on a wet turn and having the back end step out a bit. It's the whole "I'm a mad tyte drifter yo" type stuff that people seem to frown upon.

It's like the Fast n Furious culture that made the Honda scene look so bad. Or when you're hanging out with your buddy who has a 240 and every 17 year old that sees it comes up and asks if he drifts it. And also that its made tight yo. I think drifting would be a blast and plan to try it at some point in the future when I can afford the abuse to my car.

I agree basically with the above. Most of the "Drifters" are complete tool bags with no respect for anything. Seems like the fad loving honda guys moved on to ruin drifting for everyone. Of course fast and the furious was right there milking it making it worse.

Luckily the miata never got as popular as the 240sx. I guess we can all thank it's reputation of being a homo car.

Also I just never really thought drifting was all that exciting. I'd rather watch F1.

ive been into drifting since it became a thing here in the states, not with fnf. and im definitely not a fanboy of it. its fun to do when you're bored in your car on a rainy weekend. my main view in cars is to build a boosted or n/a autocross racer/daily driver. not to be a drift king..lol.

its fun! granted it definitely should not be called a motorsport; merely an automotive activity that involves and unorthodox style of car control. its not meant to be liked by everyone, only for the people that can see the joy in controlling a rwd car sideways into a turn. if you dont like it then its not for you, no harm done.

people dont like autocross, people hate streetracing, people dont like drag racing. whatever. after all, you're only into cars because thats what you enjoy doing, how you use them is completely up to you. stupid idea or not.

i mean, im sure you've all seen burnout competitions. what do you think of those?

Drifting is a lot of fun. It's noisy, scares your passengers, it's illegal, and it does require car control.

The whole image bullshit is rather lame though. Thing is, with anything cool, and drifting is cool, all sorts of people will glomp onto that as their image and identity. It's the legitimate child of fast and the furious slow car street racing.

Personally, I think that anything that attracts more attention, people, and money to autosports is good overall for us genuine enthusiasts. It does drive car prices up (e.g., 240) but aftermarket parts prices down. It also keeps the scene alive, yo.

I thought drifting was the gayest **** ever for the longest time. Then I met a friend with an AE86 who had been drifting since before all this F&F ****. Took me around some clover onramps/offramps at night (he was actually very good, won some competitions etc.etc.), and after seeing his lightning quick hand movements and the amount of finesse it takes to execute a slide well, I started to respect it a lot more.

Like someone said above, I think its the drifter kids with banged up 240s that can't drift worth a **** that give drifters a bad image.

There were a bunch of those 240 kids that would show up to the local autox when I was in Monterey. They would just hold up the event every time they spun, which was at least once per run. The local 510 club even held drift events to give them another outlet, but they still showed up at the autox. In Jax they wouldn't have put up with it and they just would've been tossed out.

I've been "into" drifting since 02'. I had fun for years with it. But to me, it was the fuckload of showboating wannabes that jumped in... not your "normal dudes", it was these half-*** Emo **** with fake mowhawks, bandwagon ------ry "drift sharms" hanging of their bumpers, the surge of people who didn't give a **** about having a clean car and think having some beat *** POS is "cool", Ed Hardy wearing *******, or anyone who felt the need to help turn it into a 3-ring circus rather than focusing on driving and keeping a car looking good. It turned into a bunch of political BS that I didn't care to deal with.

I love driving my car at 110% traction, it's fun to smell the burning rubber, it's great knowing I can manipulate a car's trajectory when all control seems to have gone out the window.

My friend just let me know about this gem. If this reaches the US market we are all fucked... but on the bright side we can sell our cars for super high marked up prices.

Only could get through 20min of it but the main characters car is a Miata... The race scenes are so horrible I almost cried. Maybe it gets better? Doubtful.
