Is it just me or is Corona nearly undrinkable without a lime wedge in it? Same thing for Negra Modelo. I award bonus points if the lime is accompanied by a shrimp and a dollop of hot sauce, preferably Cholula or Tapatío.

Bring on the hate!

Think about it. What's the first thing they tell you about Mexico? DON'T DRINK THE WATER.

Beer is something like 90% water. Why would you drink beer made there?

Maybe he's just being pretentious, you know, what with it being an import and all.

Its euro pale lager brought to mexico by german immigrants at the beginning of the 19th century and brewed with local ingredients. I find nothing wrong with the beer itself, it can be quite refreshing on a hot day. I can enjoy almost anything, but there is just something about a Corona without a lime that I can't handle.

I know a lot of people who don't like it because they think its "skunky." The clear bottle is part of the curse of this particular beer and I've had more light damaged Coronas than any other group of beers I can name. The cardboard enclosed 12 pack is where its at. With the prerequisite lime wedge of course.

In quite a few cultures and localities the beer is actually MUCH safer to drink than the local water due to the extended boil required to extract and isomerize the alpha acids from the hops used in production.

I tried dogfish head noble rot and jiahu last couple days
noble rot - not bad, but tastes more like wine/champagne than beer. at least it's not hoppy
jiahu - pretty good. can definitely taste the honey and some of the fruit. enjoyed it quite a bit.
also I tried some vanilla porter from costco. it was not hoppy, but so disgusting i literally couldn't even take a sip.

*edit: I think it's called Breckenridge Vanilla Porter. disgusting

I'm not a fan of "flavored beers" because the "flavor" is always some sort of artificial chemical slurm that overpowers EVERYTHING in the beer. A noteable exception is Abita Purple Haze (raspberry) and, of course, the strawberry wheat I made a couple years back. Fresh berries are KEY but they are expensive and hard to work with, plus they are a perfect vector for infection on the industrial scale, thus ruining an entire production batch. Man, I should make that again...

You've got to try the Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA:

and if you can find it, their Palo Santo Maroon:

BTW, that Breckenridge porter scored a 66 on Ratebeer.com

pretty sure I've tried the 90 minute, it wasn't bad but I don't remember being really impressed by it. a bit hoppy, no?

It's definitely got some hops to it, but it's really smooth and well balanced with other flavors IMO. I think I already mentioned that even my wife, who generally hates anything hoppy, grew to like them enough to replace her (dedicated) Bud Lite as a staple for her in the fridge.

Weyerbacker double Simcoe is a better double ipa than dogfish 90, just sayin.

I have literally never seen that beer before, so maybe they just don't distribute on the west coast. FWIW, beer advocate reviews actually rate the DFH 90 significantly higher, but I'll take your word for it until I come across one to try on my own.

Ahh, I'm quite fond of that brewery ^^

They make some very good stouts too, the "Berserker" being one of my all time favorites.

Yeah, it was not bitter, it was smooth, strong coffee/espresso taste, complimented perfectly the steak and mushrooms and even was ok with the lobster salad. It even paired good with the dessert. overall loved it

about to have this now:
