Vodka Myths III

Vodka can...
Myth statement status Notes

...be turned into high-quality vodka through charcoal filtration. Busted Through a double-blind taste test, the cheap vodka seemed to taste better with every subsequent filtration, although the top-shelf vodka beat them all. However, a chemical analysis showed no actual difference between the filtered and unfiltered cheap vodka.

Does filtering cheap vodka through a Brita filter really work? - Spirits - Chowhound
There's some more reading here for ya.
Edit *** No real difinitives, but I do stand behind using it for burning in Headers.

So the fact that it tasted better to them is negated by the lack of provable chemical change? I say BS. If it tastes better, it tastes better.

Stoli gets my vote.

I tried a really good one while on a ski trip in Colorado in March. It is Colorado vodka. It was about 30 in the ski area, so I would imagine it would be closer to twenty anywhere else. Then again, that is the only place I've ever seen it. One of the best I've tasted

I think that was just an additional note for the test, it didn't change their conclusion.

My vote:

Doesn't taste like antifreeze and not Grey Goose expensive.

Come up early with the others and I'm pretty sure I have a Speyside blend that you'd like.

It's different. Great with apple juice, not sure how it'd go in a martini...

038176 Tito's Handmade Vodka 750ml 80 $20.95
038178 Tito's Handmade Vodka 1.75L 80 $35.95

034820 Svedka Vodka 750ml 80 $14.95

and then for the frat boys, sub $14 magnums:
035078 Aristocrat Vodka 1.75L 80 $12.50
035408 Bowman's Virginia Vodka 1.75L 80 $13.40
036978 Nikolai Vodka 1.75L 80 $12.90

Y8S -

MiataManiac92 beat me to the punch. Though not a vodka drinker, Tito's holds my vote.

I am interested in your feedback...

Try out three olives as someone mentioned. To me it's very close to the expensive goose/belvedere, but much cheaper.

FWIW, I drink Tito's at home when I'm having it straight - direct from the freezer, no ice, chilled glass. For mixing, damn near anything goes but we use Smirnoff(about $13) for the wife's Cosmos or with tonic.

OK. Put a little more work into this. Talked with a friend that fancies himself a Vodka guy. Told him cheap and good. Answers.

Sveda, Sobieski and... drum roll please....Tito's.
