Pretty sure if you cut stock springs on stock shocks you'll be riding on the bump stops alot more often then you would like to.

F1 teams cut springs to get the car lower, and remove the bumpstops. That way, when you block the spring or hit frame its like running a really big sway bar.

Cutting springs works for making a car lower to the ground, and that's about it considering the super soft stock springs.

cutting aftermarket springs on aftermarket struts isnt really a big deal, but stock springs on stock struts is a big no no

if you can't derive the spring equation, dont cut your springs. I think that's a fair way to go about it, dont you?

Do you mean deriving the F = 1/2*k*x^2 equation, k being a constant? I'm stupid on my calculus since its been a while...would the answer be dF/dx = 1/2*k*2x? Even if that is right...I still think I'd have a shop do the work.

not that spring equation, the one that predicts the spring constant from the material the spring is made from and how it's wound.

I have cut springs on my current daily 94 se-r, it's pretty low, looks better. Ride quality sucks on bumpy road, and it's very easy to get the bumpstops. Do it.
